From the Managing Director's Desk, May 27, 2019

Dear Viking Families,
Happy Memorial Day1  Let’s make sure we remember why we celebrate this weekend!
We have made it to the end of another wonderful year! Thank you all for your support, and for all you do for your children at Voyager!  As we receive final scores from end of year exams, teachers will finalize all grades and reports for you. Please don’t forget that math scores wont be released until sometime in the fall, so no worries!  We would like to thank our PTO for all their hard work and exciting events this year. The PTO has been an amazing group and we couldn’t appreciate them more!

Dear VAES Families,

We have had a busy and fun week (& YEAR) at VAES!  It is hard to believe that the school year is ending!! This week, our second graders had a special visitor, Elizabeth Gardner, to speak with them about weather.  They truly enjoyed her visit! Also, the third grade students and staff outdid themselves with a FANTASTIC final project celebration!!  They even had two FOOD TRUCKS!!  Each year, I think that their Durham project can’t get better, but it does!!  Bravo, Third Grade!! Be sure to check out more of our Empathy canvases that we have begun to hang throughout the school!  They are FABULOUS!!  Last, but not least, I consider myself blessed and proud to work with such amazing staff, parents, and students!!  VAES truly has the VERY BEST teachers and staff!! Even on “crazy” days, it is a joy to come to work!! Thank you!!  I hope everyone has a fun, safe, and restful summer break!

Much Love,
Leslie
VAES Principal

Dear VAMS Families,

Wow, school is out for the summer! We had a terrific year at the middle school.  I am so proud of all of our students. Not only did we strive to increase in the area of academics as we pushed our students to excel, we also continued our focus on our Core Values.  We provided our students many opportunities to support others by helping the students of Pender County, collecting items for the children of Duke Hospital, and helping one of our families.  These are just a few of our total school activities. Our students had socials, a semi-formal, guest speakers, and ended the year with Shaved Ice.

Dear Viking Families,
Only a few school days to go! Thanks for making sure all our students are here, on time every day through the end!  Please take a moment to review this letter regarding Math EOG scores for grades 3-8 (click here). As you may remember, this is a new testing year for students to assess the implementation of new math standards. For this reason, students will not receive score reports on their EOG Math exams until next school year.  We will use classroom and teacher data as needed to properly place students into courses/classes next year.

Dear VAES Families,
Don’t forget that next Friday, May 24th is our last day of school and we dismiss at 11:15.  Carline will end at 11:45 and all elementary staff will be able to head home for the day.  Please be sure that you pick up your elementary student by 11:45.

Dear VAMS Families,

I am so proud of Voyager’s middle school students AND their parents.  Our 3rd – 8th graders were administered the reading and math EOG on Wednesday and Thursday.  I emailed all of you requesting that your chlld come to school and on time. Parents, thanks for getting your children to school and on time!  We only had 4 make-ups tests and in a school with 500 plus students, that’s fantastic! Our students were focused and put forth much effort on both days.  Both days were awesome! We also appreciate our hall monitors – Mrs. Herndon, Mrs. Woodward, Mrs. Rogers, Mrs. Fraley, Mrs. Draughon, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Payton, Ms. Koppenhaver, and Ms. Mendes.  You are all “simply the best” and we appreciate your help!

Dear Viking Families,
First and most important, HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY TO ALL THE MOMMIES OUT THERE! Thank you for trusting us with your most precious gifts, our students! We wouldn’t be here, doing what we do if it weren’t for you. We hope you all have a lovely day.

Voyager Academy Elementary School News, May 12, 2019

Dear VAES Families,

On Tuesday, May 14th and Wednesday, May 15th, our third grade students will take the NC End-of-Grade tests in reading and math.  If you have a third grader, please be sure they are getting a good night’s sleep and eating a healthy breakfast!

Before the elementary afternoon carline begins, there will be cones blocking the end of the double stack lanes (beside the Hock House) so that the construction vehicles can exit the campus until carline begins at 2:45.  We want to ensure that the cars waiting for carline are not filling up the lanes preventing the construction vehicles from exiting. DO NOT move these cones!  A Voyager staff member will move them right before carline begins.

Dear VAMS Families,
What a great week at the middle school!  We had terrific Project Celebrations by our 7th graders and our 8th graders.  The students shared their Passion Projects and all were fantastic!  It was obvious students were able to select their topic by their enthusiasm during their presentations.  Great job by all!
