From the Managing Director's Desk, Sept. 29, 2019

Dear Viking Families,
Good afternoon! We hope you are enjoying the extended wonderful weather.  We wanted to let you know we have already posted our new calendars for 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. Our goal is to always have 2 years of school calendars posted so you can plan ahead.  We have also formally updated our enrollment (and returning family) policy to require all students attend school as soon as school begins or risk forfeiting their seat. The enrollment policy page and the attendance sections of our handbooks will be updated and published. We will send reminders in the Spring and a letter will be included with recommitments and new enrollment packets.  We have also updated our Parent and Family Engagement Policy. This policy can be found under parent resources, documents. We will add a tab for Accountability this week. This policy is related to our Title 1 targeted assistance program. Please email me directly if you have questions about this policy.

From the Voyager Academy Board, Sept. 29, 2019

I know it is only October, but the Board wants to make sure you have plenty of notice before making summer plans about a new aspect of our enrollment policy, which we adopted at our September meeting.  The policy essentially requires students to attend school at the beginning of the school year to maintain their lottery spot (with specific exceptions for illness with a doctors’ note, religious observances, and so forth).  Each parent will be asked to acknowledge the policy when they re-enroll or apply for a lottery spot.  This policy applies equally to new applicants and current students.

Hello to All!

Voyager Academy Middle School News, Sept. 29, 2019

Dear VAMS Families,

Friday was an extremely busy day at VAMS!  We had lots of scheduled parent conferences.  It was great seeing so many of our parents attending conferences.  I also had the opportunity to attend several of the conferences which is great for me as I learn more about our students.

A Note on Voyager Values
Do you know what our school values are?  (You get bonus points if you have also read our school’s strategic plan!)
The Board is guided by Voyager’s values in its work.  I believe it is also important to make sure every member of the Voyager community knows our values and helps us to exemplify them.  While I believe that our school is doing a terrific job with character education, including through the hard work of our counselors and staff, teaching our kids to embrace these values must start at home.  When we interact with our kids, each other, administration and staff, and the public, our children are watching.

What beautiful weather we are beginning to have during our car line time.  We are looking forward to more and more of these comfortable cool mornings.  Hope you are all doing well and that your student(s) are enjoying school.

Voyager Academy Middle School News, Sept. 22, 2019

Dear VAMS Families,

What a busy week with field trips, lots of sports being played and a PTO luncheon for the staff!

Our 6th graders enjoyed a field trip to Marbles/IMAX studio.  The students had a great time participating in experiments and hands-on activities dealing with science.  They also enjoyed watching the landing on the moon event at IMAX studio. It was awesome. To top off the trip, lunch was at Crabtree Valley’s Food Court.  The students were excited, well-mannered, engaged in their learning, and extremely polite and helpful to each other. I had the opportunity to go on the field trip and I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the students during a terrific learning environment.  Thanks 6th grade team and  parents who attended the field trip!  Parents, you made it happen!!!!!

ATTN: 3rd-6th grade Voyager families!
Voyager Academy High School Choral Arts Program invites YOU to join us

From the Managing Director's Desk, Sept. 8, 2019

Dear Viking Families,
It was a short and disrupted week for sure, but we as always we appreciate your support and your understanding as we prioritize student and staff safety. For many years, following the course of our local LEAS has been mostly successful as we remember that our students and staff come from as many as 8 surrounding counties where weather and transportation can be a hazard.  We will be looking at this policy during our next board meeting to determine if it serves us best, or if there are other measures we may consider on inclement weather dates. Do keep in mind that our calendars provide for additional instructional time to prevent us needing to make up those days. Speaking of calendars, our calendar committee will be meeting in the next few weeks to confirm our 2-year calendar.  We will also update our policy so that each year, we post a calendar for the 2nd year out, thus allowing families ample time to plan their vacations or activities well in advance.
