From the Voyager Academy Managing Director, Jan. 29, 2021

Dear Voyager Community,

I hope you are all staying warm on this chilly Friday afternoon.  Thank you for partnering with us and sharing your input this year to help us make remote learning successful.  I really appreciate each of you for your flexibility and understanding as we strive to balance everyone’s needs and concerns about reopening.  We are looking forward to resuming in-person instruction on campus and seeing all the bright smiling faces of your children.

Voyager Academy Middle School News, Jan. 29, 2021

Hello Middle School Families,

Wow, what a beautiful picture we woke up to Thursday morning along with extremely cold weather.  The fluffy snow was awesome but the winds brought COLD air.  I was hoping for some snow for sledding but that didn’t happen this go round.  I hear we could have more snow on Sunday. Stay tuned to the weather forecast!

Dear Voyager Community,

What a beautiful Friday filled with sunshine and blue skies.  The Voyager staff and students continue to shine as well with their commitment to growing and learning together. Resilience and flexibility have been key strengths that have been demonstrated throughout the journey this year as we continue to be responsive to changing needs. Mid-year reviews of academic data show strong student growth in all three schools. We are proud of our Vikings! The Voyager community continues to grow stronger by working together. And we greatly appreciate all the parent support at home as we partner together.

Voyager Academy Middle School News, Jan. 22, 2021

Hello Middle School Families,

Wow, it was certainly a short week.  Our students continue to work hard as January is almost over.  It’s hard to believe we are getting close to the end of the third quarter.   I spent time reviewing report cards and noticed we have some students who need to work a little harder, attend class daily, and turn in their work.  We continue to work with students and their individual needs.  Our staff has been discussing ways we can also support the social and emotional component of learning.  Be on the lookout as we have some great ideas that we will share in the very near future!

From the Voyager Academy Managing Director, Jan. 15, 2021

Dear Voyager Community,

What a busy week we have had here at Voyager, learning and growing together. Thank you again to our community for sharing your feedback on the most recent Hybrid Reopening Plan survey.  The Board met last night to review the recommended plan and consider all community feedback. The Board approved the recommendation to delay in-person instruction until March 1, 2021. The Board will allow sports and extracurricular activities to continue while we are learning remotely. Our high school student athletes did an impressive job presenting their views to the Board on resuming sports activities. The leadership team and Reopening Task Force will meet again on February 17, 2021 to review updated COVID-19 data and metrics as well as the results of safely resuming sports and extracurricular activities as we plan for the future.  The school leadership team and school staff will continue to refine operations plans and programs to ensure school readiness for a safe return to in-person learning.

VAES Family Update

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your patience and support as we seek to develop the best remote learning plans possible.  As you have heard Voyager Academy has chosen to delay the hybrid reopening plan.  The Reopening Task Force will meet on February 17, 2021 to review the most current data to determine if we are ready to open on March 01. Our elementary teaching staff will continue to give 100% to every student as we moved forward with quality instruction.  Because of the amazing partnership with parents, teachers, and students, we are making great academic progress.  Based upon the most recent progress reports that were issued, our K-3 students are doing well with the majority of each grade level receiving scores of “Exceeding Grade Level Expectations” or “Meeting Grade Level Expectations”. We will continue to work hard and also provide students with social and fun experiences.  Please hang in there.  Better days are coming.

Voyager Academy Middle School News, Jan. 15, 2021

Hello Middle School Families,

Wow, our students and teachers continue to work hard to do their best work and teachers are creating amazing lessons. I cannot believe it is almost the end of January.  we have about 4 months before the end of the school year and what an interesting year it has been.

Several of you have donated wipes and sanitizer.  I can’t thank you enough as I know once we return to in-person we will use lots of wipes and

sanitizer.

Dear Voyager Community,

I anticipated opening my first newsletter of 2021 with all the optimism and hope that I feel with each new year.  Unfortunately, I write the first weekly newsletter of 2021 with a very heavy heart. We have closed the book on 2020 but the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to surge.  North Carolina has just had two record breaking days of over 10,000 new cases and the positive tests in the state have increased to 13.9%. And sadly, the state has had over 7,000 deaths due to the coronavirus. Many in our school community have recently been impacted as well, causing heightened concern about the pandemic and our plans to reopen on January 19, 2021. Families, students, and staff were all sent a survey yesterday to gather updated feedback from our community. We do have hope and can take action to stay safe. Please remember to practice the 3 W’s (wear a face mask, wait 6 feet, and wash hands frequently) to protect yourself, your family, and our community. We are also grateful that the vaccine has become available and the process is now being implemented to help protect our community.

Happy New Year to all  Middle School Families,

Wow, I wonder if we are going to get enough snow to have some fun sledding.  I think a little sledding would be lots of fun even if it’s going to be very cold.  I hope all of our students had a great first week at school after celebrating the holidays.  I know I enjoyed the time away from school!
