From the Managing Director's Desk, Feb. 25, 2018

Dear Viking Families,
First let me say thank you to all the families for their patience and support this week as we needed to dismiss the High School mid-day due to a power outage. The power outage was a widespread Duke issue that took 4 hours to resolve and we appreciate your help in safely releasing students!  In this case only the HS needed to be dismissed as they had many classes without any access to natural or other lighting. Please note that all High School students MUST attend school ALL DAY on Monday March 26th to make up for the lost instructional time.  Please make sure all students are prepared to stay at the HS full day until regular dismissal time.

Dear VAMS Families,

This has been a short week as Monday was a teacher workday.  We had our Spirit Week that brought lots of excitement to the building.  The students enjoyed each of the spirit days as did several staff members. Our Student-Staff Basketball was full of energy and awesome plays.  We appreciate our refs, Coach Simmons and Coach Huff!  Not only did they ref but they also had the opportunity to check out the middle school student team members!

A place that is deisnged to be the safest for our future has become unpredictable and scary, but please know that we are truly engaged and prepared as best as we can be.

We hope you had a lovely weekend! I wanted to take a quick moment to introduce you to our new MS assistant principal, Mr. Mitchell!. He brings 18 years of school experience.  He has worked in charter schools and worked with middle and high school students.  Things to know about Mr. Mitchell – He is very excited to be at Voyager.  If he were not in education, he would coach basketball or baseball.  Before coming to NC, he lived in Maryland.  He speaks 5 languages and the fact that is MOST important to Mrs. Johnson--------Mr. Mitchell is a TARHEEL!

Voyager Academy Elementary School News, Feb. 4, 2018

Dear VAES Families,

We have noticed that more and more students are arriving late to school.  Today, over 20 cars were pulling into carline and coming up the hill at 7:44.  There is no way to get 20+ cars through in less than a minute when the tardy sign is to be turned at 7:45.  Remember that teachers actually begin morning meeting at 7:45 AM. We are being generous with waiting to turn the tardy sign at 7:45 (due to the large number of cars dropping of elementary and middle school students at VAES).  Students should be in class and ready to learn at 7:45 and not in carline.
