Dear Voyager Community,

We’ve had quite the rainy week here in Durham, but at least it’s not snow. I look forward to a sunny spring that is on its way.  It’s been a great week on campus and our students continue to shine and work hard to make the most of their Voyager education experience.

This past weekend, the VAHS Show Choirs travelled to their first competition of the season in Winfield, WV. Both choirs brought home Best Stage Crew and Bull City Lights placed 2nd in their division! We also want to congratulate our two showmanship winners -- Karli McKenna and Riley Fernandez. We also had a member of Bull City Lights, Melody Wimberley, place first in the Solo Competition. We can't wait to see where this season takes our Vikings!

Voyager Academy Middle School News, Feb. 25, 2022

Hi Middle School Families,

I hope the Remote Day was used by all of our students as it provided time for them to “catch up” on their work that has not been submitted to their teachers.  As I have viewed PowerSchool, we do have several students who have not completed their work or they have completed and not submitted their work. Please encourage your students to complete all assignments.

Dear Voyager Community,

Well it has been another exciting and productive week on campus.  Students and staff continue to work hard through the third quarter strengthening their academic skills, completing updated benchmarking, and learning through inquiry and project based experiences. While students are enjoying two days off from school, our teachers and staff had the opportunity to participate in professional development, team meetings, and vertical planning so they can also continue to grow and learn while focusing on improving their practice.

NEWS FROM ELEMENTARY:  We hope that you and your family are enjoying your long weekend.  The following announcements will be helpful for you and your family for the week of February 21-25.

From the Voyager Academy Managing Director, Feb. 11, 2022

Dear Voyager Community,

Thank you to the PTO and our wonderful families that recognized and celebrated our staff this week during staff appreciation week.  It was amazing to see all the inspirational messages, decorations, and all the delicious food served in each of the school buildings to make our team feel special. It was incredible for our staff to receive hand written notes from students, cards from parents, flowers, gift cards, and sweet treats to show gratitude and appreciation for the Voyager team. I had many teachers and staff sharing how wonderful it was to be recognized and appreciated by our families and students.  We all appreciate the loving kindness shown in a big way this week. I am so grateful for our school community and the support from all of our families.

NEWS FROM ELEMENTARY:  It is Super Bowl Weekend!!  We hope you and your family have a wonderful time celebrating and pulling for your favorite team.  Voyager Elementary created a football graph to show who the students think will win the game.  Our students think the LA Rams will win.  Let’s see if they are correct.  The following announcements will be helpful for you and your family for the week of Feb. 14-18.

Voyager Academy Middle School News, Feb. 11, 2022

Hi Middle School Families,

Wow, we have made it through Benchmark # 2.  I am proud of our students and the work they are doing.  As we monitored the halls and looked from afar, it appeared that our students were focused as they pushed through math and language arts and science for our 5th and 8th graders.  Our Benchmark administration gives us an idea of spacing for groups and for the number of test administrators that we will need for our EOGs in May as well as what skills need additional attention.

From the Voyager Academy Managing Director, Feb. 4, 2022

Dear Voyager Community,

It’s been another wonderful week on campus! Our students are working hard as they settle into the second semester. Across campus our buildings are also focusing on Black History Month and recognizing and celebrating the important contributions of African Americans.  Lessons are being incorporated throughout the curriculum from kindergarten through 12th grade on African American authors, playwrights, civil rights leaders, scientists, artists, musicians, and mathematicians. Highlights are also spotlighted during morning announcements. The Middle School Student Council created a black history month trivia program and our second graders created a freedom quilt as part of their learning process and to create greater awareness.
