Class of 2026 Cap and Gown Ordering (Date Correction)

The Class of VAHS 2026 Cap and Gown Order date is Tuesday Oct. 14, during lunch at VAHS.
Students will receive printed order forms at an assembly during Advisory on Monday Sept. 29, 2025.

Sock-tember: A Sock Drive For Kids At VAHS

VAHS Service Club is proud to partner with the Welcome Baby Organization for their 2nd Annual Sock-tember Drive! Welcome Baby is a Durham-based organization that supports local families with young children through resources, education, and community care.

Drive Dates: Tuesday, September 16 – Friday, October 3, 2025. There will be a box in the lobby of each school.

Collection Goal: 500 pairs of socks (Newborn through Children’s size 9) across all schools.

All donations will go directly to families in our community through Welcome Baby’s weekly Giving Closet.
Why Socks Matter for Kids

  • Health & Hygiene: Clean socks protect little feet from blisters, infections, and cold floors.
Emotional Comfort: A warm, cozy pair of socks helps children feel safe, cared for, and ready to learn.

  • Confidence: Fresh socks support self-esteem so kids feel comfortable at school and play.

  • Children outgrow socks faster than any other clothing item—often needing new pairs every season!

Protect Our Students Act

On Monday, as required by general statute and session law (known as the “Protect Our Students Act”), all students in 9th-12th grades will watch a short video designed to help students understand and learn how to report inappropriate acts and behaviors against students. More information can be found on the Center for Safer Schools website.

These videos will help students be able to:

  • Understand what inappropriate behavior by an adult is and what it might look like if it is happening to them or someone they know

  • Know how to practice healthy behaviors and skills to stay safe

  • Identify a responsible adult who they could ask for help

Please reach out to your student's teacher, counselor, or administrator with any questions or concerns.

North Carolina Governor's School 2026

The North Carolina Governor's School is a four-week summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses. Learning focuses on the exploration of the most recent ideas and concepts in each discipline, and it does not involve credit, tests, or grades. Students are selected to attend through a competitive process after being nominated by their public school. Please review the information on the website  below or contact Ms. O'Kane for more information. Completed applications for the VAHS candidates are due to Ms. O'Kane by December 2, 2025.

NC College Connect

Congratulations to the VAHS seniors who have earned eligibility for the NC College Connect program.  https://www.cfnc.org/nc-college-connect/. NC College Connect is a program that provides a simpler and faster way for students with a weighted 2.8 or higher to get admitted to college in North Carolina. Eligible seniors should have received a letter from the College Foundation of NC (CFNC) with a list of colleges and universities that they have been offered admission through the program. Information about next steps is included in the letter and at the website listed above. The Attached PowerPoint is also a great resource.
Please contact VAHS School Counselor, Jill O'Kane if there are additional questions.

Seniors: Be Considered For Early Admission With “National College Match”

The National College Match gives seniors the opportunity to be considered for early admission and a full four-year scholarship.

QuestBridge programs are for high-achieving students from low-income backgrounds. Most of the students who are selected as Finalists come from households earning less than $65,000 per year for a household of four with minimal assets (assets include savings, investments, and homes, properties, or businesses owned). However, there are no absolute cut-offs.

The deadline for seniors to apply is Tuesday, September 30. Please check out  https://www.questbridge.org/ for more information.

Interested/Eligible students are encouraged to reach out to Jill O'Kane, VAHS School Counselor for assistance (jokane@voyageracademy.net).
