Dear VAMS Families,
Wow, we’ve completed a week of school! It has been a great week with much learning in all of the classrooms!
As most of you know, Mr. Smith will be leaving Voyager! Mr. Smith is part of a team opening a charter school in Sanford, NC. Ascend Academy will open in the fall so Mr. Smith needs to get ready for the lottery for Ascend Academy along with interviewing and hiring teachers. He needs to spend his time in Sanford. We are sad that Mr. Smith is leaving BUT so proud and happy for him as he begins a new chapter in his educational career. Mr. Smith’s last day at Voyager is Tuesday, February 6. We will proclaim Friday, February 2 as Mr. Smith’s Day. Feel free to say thanks to Mr. Smith in any way you like! We appreciate Mr. Smith and all that he has done to support the students at Voyager Middle School!
I want to thank all of you who pickup your children during our afternoon car line. You have been extremely supportive of the process that we implemented this week. Thank you for following the directions that we shared in a letter sent home with report cards. You have done a great job having your signs in your car window and having your child’s name and 4 digit number on the sign. Each day has gotten better and better! On Thursday we had all cars that were in line loaded by 3:41. We did have several students who were not picked up until 3:55. We also had students who had to go to afterschool because they were still waiting at 4:00. Our car line starts and 3:15 and should be over at 3:45. Beginning Monday, we will walk students who have not been picked up by 1:50 (Tuesday-Friday it is 3:50) to after school. The only students who should be waiting are students who are being picked up by their high school sibling. High school does not dismiss until 3:45. Thanks for working with us!
