Academy Managing Director, Dec. 18, 2020

December 18, 2020

Dear Voyager Community,

As 2020 comes to a close it’s a great time to reflect on how we’ve grown and changed since the start of the year. This year I've seen exponential growth in our technology skills, flexibility, and recognition of all that is important in our lives. I wanted to wish all of our Voyager families and staff a wonderful holiday season and a healthy and joy filled new year. May the new year be merry and bright for each of you.  Thank you to all the Voyager families that donated so many gifts for the Durham Rescue Mission and gift cards to support our families in need.  Your generosity is inspiring and will bring joy and hope to many and brighten their lives.  Just look at all the amazing donated gifts!

VAES Family Update

Greetings to all of our Voyager Academy Elementary Families,

As we prepare for the possible Hybrid Reopening Plan for Voyager Academy, I wanted to take some time to review several important pieces of information.

Voyager Academy Middle School News, Dec. 18, 2020

Hello Middle School Parents,

Wow, I can not believe that we have completed the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year.  Even with all the ups and downs, it has been a terrific semester.  The students have put forth much effort and have been very successful this first semester.  Parents, you have also put forth much effort to ensure your child/ren, our students completed and turned in assignments as well as pushed your children to zoom into their class periods.  Our Voyager Middle School Staff has been fabulous as they have provided quality instruction to each of our students.  Our teachers have created relationships with the students so that the students know their teachers might push them but that their teachers truly care about them.  It has been a different type of semester but we have made it!

From the Voyager Academy Managing Director, Dec. 11, 2020

Dear Voyager Community,

Thank you to all the families and staff that joined the school level Town Hall meetings to discuss our Hybrid Reopening Plans. We appreciated hearing all of your questions and support as we continue to navigate the journey ahead this year.  We all understand there is apprehension, but we believe Voyager is prepared to take the next step to move forward safely with the hybrid model on January 19, 2021. There will be an asynchronous learning day and a teacher workday on January 15, 2021 to allow additional time for teachers to fully set up their classrooms. Please know that we will continuously monitor all the data and metrics and assess whether we need to pivot to another plan.  Given the uncertainty this year it is important that all families are prepared and remain flexible should we need to pivot to another phase in order to ensure a safe learning environment for all. Presentations from the Town Halls are linked below the newsletter for families that were not able to attend. Scheduling questions should be directed to the building principals.

Important High School Athletic Updates

Attention students and families interested in participating in Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Cross Country, and Swimming/Diving.  With the return of participation anticipated for these three sports coming up in January, myself and our coaching staff would like to have virtual interest meetings to relay all necessary information to those interested.  As we all know this year will certainly look different from years past so it is important that we are all on the same page.  Please also make sure to have correctly filled out all paperwork on our FormRELeaf website here prior to tryouts/participation:

Hello Middle School Parents,

Wow, what a fast and busy week!  I first want to send a big Thank You to Stephanie Brennan.  Mrs Brennan was our special guest this morning during the 8th Grade Career Talks session.  Mrs. Brennan talked about her job and how one of her teachers was instrumental in encouraging her to be a lawyer.  Learning about the different types of lawyers was very interesting. Mrs. Brennan shared how important it is to select a career that you are passionate about and that you will enjoy!  Thank you, Mrs. Brennan.

Dear Voyager Community,

Thank you to all students, parents, and staff that completed our Hybrid Return to Learning Survey.  Your input will continue to guide our decision making process as we plan for the future. Results of this survey will be shared with the Reopening Task Force next week as we continue to plan for our return in a hybrid educational model. The Voyager team has been preparing for the return of our students to campus and our hybrid education model.  Students have been grouped into three cohorts, Cohort A attending in-person on Mondays and Tuesdays and remote Wednesday through Friday; Cohort B attending in-person on Thursday and Friday and remote Monday through Wednesday, and Cohort C students will be remote full time.  Town Hall meetings are also scheduled in early December for parents to learn more about our Hybrid Reopening Plans.

Voyager Academy Middle School News, Nov. 13, 2020

Hello Middle School Parents,

I hope everyone is safe and sound after the rains we received Thursday. I also hope that your families across our state are safe. The roads were certainly covered with water when traveling home from school. As you travel this weekend be mindful of the remaining water as well as the many potholes and other road problems.
