SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS NEEDED:  As we prepare for our January return to school, we need to increase our substitute teacher list.  If you are a Voyager parent and you would be willing to discuss subbing for the elementary school, please email our assistant Principal, Ms. Graves at jgraves@voyageracademy.net.  We need YOU to make our reopening plan a reality.

HOLIDAY/WINTER CHEER:  Parents... Do you want to show your love and appreciation to the VAES Staff this holiday season? We are asking for a few simple donations to "warm them up" for the winter break! You can donate a holiday coffee mug and some packets of hot chocolate, tea, coffee mixes, and any other items to add in a mug! We will put these together and give one to each teacher and staff member at the Elementary School. Donations will be accepted starting next Monday in a bin outside by the front door. Email Karen Hofmann, khofmann@voyageracademy.net with any questions.

DECEMBER VIRTUAL ASSEMBLY:  Winter is just around the corner and Voyager Academy is getting ready.  Our students will be invited to watch a winter fine arts play, entitled, “There Is No Business Like Snow Business”.  The students will have the opportunity to watch this play, hosted by the Atlantic Coast Theater Group during the week of Dec. 7-11.  On Dec. 11, students will have an opportunity to participate in a live zoom chat with the actors from the play.  Mark your calendar now for this event.  The live zoom chat will begin at 8:00 am. Here is a one minute link preview of the play, “No Business Like Snow Business”.

SANITIZER DRIVE?  VAES is working on trying to obtain a good amount of hand sanitizer for our January reopening plan.  Mrs. Daly, a Voyager parent, has offered to try and organize a parent group to obtain a bulk order of sanitizer.  If you are willing to partner with Mrs. Daly and help Voyager purchase some hand sanitizer, please email Mrs. Daly at joeandsuz105@gmail.com

THANK YOU MRS. DALY AND ALL VOYAGER PARENTS!

TOWN HALL MEETING:  Thank you for taking the time to attend the Elementary Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 2.  If you have any questions that were not answered during the meeting, please let us know.  Listed below are a few of the important slides that were shown during the Town Hall Meeting.

VAES Safety Procedures:  VAES will work to provide the safest environment possible.  Listed below are the safety procedures we have put into place:

  • Face coverings are required for all students, staff, and visitors.
  • Physical distancing signage and hand washing signage has been posted throughout the building.
  • Non-essential visitors will not be allowed to enter the building.
  • Parent meetings will be held virtually.
  • Teachers will model and teach frequent handwashing and how to use sanitizer when soap and water are not available.
  • Health screening questions and temperature checks will be conducted on each student before they are permitted to enter the school building.  If a child has a temperature of 100.4 or above and/or does not pass the screening questions, the student will not be allowed to attend school.  A staff member will follow-up with the students parent/guardian with more information about when they are able to return to school. Health screening will be conducted in the car line before the guardian leaves campus.

MASK PRACTICE:  As we begin to prepare for returning to in-person instruction in January, I would like to encourage you to begin having your child practice wearing their face mask for long periods of time.  All students and staff will be required to wear a face mask at all times (except for a period of time during lunch) when we return to in person instruction.  It would be very helpful if you would begin having your child wear their face mask during morning meetings or for a one to two hour period during the school day as we prepare them for the transition.

TOY DRIVE:  The National Junior Honor Society at the Middle School is sponsoring a Toy Drive to help support the Durham Rescue Mission.  The Durham Rescue Mission is in need of 15,000 toys for children this year.

If you would like to participate in the Toy Drive, you may drop off new, unwrapped toys outside of the glass doors at the Middle School.  Staff will ensure all toys are brought inside the building.

We will be collecting toys on December 14 and 15 between 9:00-3:00.  Toys will be delivered to the Rescue Mission on December 16.

If you have any questions, please contact Melodie Green (mgreen@voyageracademy.net) or Andrea Weber (aweber@voyageracademy.net)
