Voyager Academy Elementary School News, December 23, 2018

Dear VAES Families,

On Wednesday morning, we had a whole school morning meeting with all of the students and staff.  During our news and announcements portion, we were able to honor a very special person, Mr. Robert Frye (Mr. Robert), our amazing and kind custodian.  He was overwhelmed by the generosity of the staff, students, and parents!! We are truly blessed to have Mr. Robert at VAES and he was “blown away” when we presented him with all of the donations.  THANK YOU!!!!

Dear Viking Families,
First, let me say thanks again for all your patience during the weather advisories and schedule changes. We made it through the first (and hopefully) last rough winter storm of the season! High School finals went off without a hitch on Friday and we expect it to continue through next week.  Only a few more days to go until our long, much earned break! If you need anything during break, please email me directly or email your building principal and we will do our best to make sure you are helped.

Care Program updates

**As a friendly reminder, there will be no after care on Wednesday, December 19, so please plan to retrieve your student(s) at the appropriate school dismissal time.

From the Managing Director's Desk, December 9, 2018

Dear Viking Families,
I hope you are all bundled up and enjoying this snowy weather but stay safe! As you all know, we will operate on the same weather policy as DPS to help you plan your day. We will expect delays at a minimum, if not closures possible tomorrow in the interest of student and staff safety.  Please remember, we have families from all over the region, so if for some reason we are operating but you are unable to travel safely, please just stay home and call in so we know where your children are!

Voyager Academy Elementary School News, December 9, 2018

Dear VAES Families,
We had a busy and productive week at VAES.  One of my favorite things is to watch our teachers and students in action during Reading Workshop as they have small guided reading groups with the teacher and the students rotate through their literacy work stations!

Dear VAMS Families,

As we continue to hear about the snowstorm, I hope all of you are warm and safe. Waiting to see what the storm brings can certainly create lots of anxiousness. If there is snow, hopefully, the children can enjoy some sledding!

Dear Viking Families,
It is official…our Varsity Boys Soccer Team is the STATE CHAMPIONS!!  Congratulations to our players, coaches and families for an amazing season! Thank you to our fans and to the Booster Club for supporting the boys and for putting on a home tailgate!  It was an exciting year and we can only hope to repeat the same at our stadium next year!

Voyager Academy Elementary School News, November 18, 2018

Dear VAES Families,
Often as we enter the holiday season, we can get caught up in all of the bustle and focus on unimportant or negative things. Many of you know that this has been a difficult year for my family with the loss of my father.  I know that other staff and families have also experienced great loss and difficulties this year. So, I encourage all of us to stop, focus on the positive, and think about all we have to be thankful for as we near the Thanksgiving holiday.  I am truly thankful for all of you – VAES students, parents, and staff!!

Voyager Academy Middle School News, November 18, 2018

Dear VAMS Families,
It’s great to see the sun shining as the week has been a rainy one.  Even though it was very dreary outside, there was much excitement inside the building.  Teachers continue to amaze me with the quality lessons presented to the students. The students continue to be engaged in a variety of learning strategies and techniques.

Dear VAMS Families,

Congratulations to Mr. Doug Price!  Mr. Price was nominated and named Voyager Academy Teacher of the Year this past spring.  He had several tasks to complete as he is now competing in the state competition. This week we learned that Mr. Price is one of the 10 finalists for NC Charter School Teacher of the Year.  Mr. Price will be interviewed by the Charter School Teacher of the Year Selection Committee in a couple of weeks. The team will narrow the field from 10 to 2 candidates. We are all cheering for Mr. Price!!!!  Mr. Price, we congratulate you and are very proud of you!
