Voyager Academy Middle School News, March 25, 2018

Dear VAMS Families,

Can you believe it is spring and snow is again predicted this weekend?  Even though we had snow on Wednesday, the students were focused and on task this week.  Our teachers are preparing the students for our final benchmarks. We will administer reading on Tuesday and math on Wednesday.

It is extremely important that students arrive on time and are in their class on time. Benchmark administration will begin promptly after the announcements! The benchmarks we take on Tuesday and Wednesday will provide information that indicates where our strengths and weaknesses are prior to May EOGs.

Spanish I A – 7th Graders
Parents, if you have a 7th grader who has Spanish as an elective, you probably noticed that the third quarter grade was a little different than the grade in PowerSchool.  Mrs. Lindquist has been teaching our students since Mrs. Kobbah resigned on February 14th.  Based on all the teaching and learning that has taken place during the recent weeks, the third quarter grade was determined by the grades the students have received since Mrs. Lindquist has been teaching.  It is incredible to observe in the classroom and hear the students speak! I truly appreciate you as we had some bumps in the road with Spanish but I feel confident in their learning with Mrs. Lindquist. Mrs. Lindquist is a veteran teacher who actually teaches at the university level!  If you have questions about the decision-making process, contact me. If you have questions about the grades, contact Mrs. Lindquist.

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures
On Monday, March 26, we will have lots of pictures taken!  Our students will have spring pictures taken, as well as, class pictures.  Envelopes were sent home with students earlier in the week.

Our spring sports’ teams will have pictures taken Monday afternoon.  Envelopes were given to our athletes on Friday. If you have questions about the team pictures, please email the coach or Ms. Pam.

Congratulations
We are so excited to announce the middle school Teacher of the Year and the middle school Outstanding Young Educator.   Doug Price has been selected as the Teacher of the Year for Voyager Middle School. Mr. Price teaches Core Connections to our sixth graders.  Mr. Price is an awesome teacher and pushes students to do their best and reach their potential. It is amazing to observe the project work that takes place in Mr. Price’s class.    Carlyn Fowler has been selected as the Outstanding Young Educator for Voyager Middle School. Mrs. Fowler is a “beginning teacher” of two years. If you visit in her classroom, you get the feeling that Mrs. Fowler has been teaching for more than two years.  She has a special gift, as she is an outstanding teacher. Mrs. Fowler teaches fifth grade science and has hooked the fifth graders on science. It is amazing to visit her classroom and observe the engagement of the students. We are very proud of Mr. Price and Mrs. Fowler.
