Voyager Academy Middle School News, March 30, 2018

Dear VAMS Families,

Hip, hip, hooray for Spring Break!  I think the students and staff are looking forward to the break. Our students in grades 4-8 were administered the reading benchmark on Wednesday.
On Thursday, students in grades 4-8 were administered the math benchmark. We will receive our reports during or after Spring Break. Many of our teachers have been creating their own data charts to determine if the percentage correct for each student has increased.  Once we get the reports, we will be able to determine which standards need additional work.

Today we had two students from Stoneman Douglas High School speak to the 7th and 8th graders who attended the assembly.  The two young ladies, Sarah and Jacqueline, were most appropriate with their conversation and our students asked excellent questions.  It was an
awesome experience for the students who chose to attend.

Congratulations  -I know that we included this section in last week’s newsletter but I feel it’s important enough to include again!!!!!

We are so excited to announce the middle school Teacher of the Year and the middle school Outstanding Young Educator.   Doug Price has been selected as the Teacher of the Year for Voyager Middle School. Mr. Price teaches Core Connections to our sixth graders.  Mr. Price is an awesome teacher and pushes students to do their best and reach their potential. It is amazing to observe the project work that takes place in Mr. Price’s class.    Carlyn Fowler has been selected as the Outstanding Young Educator for Voyager Middle School. Mrs. Fowler is a “beginning teacher” of two years. If you visit in her classroom, you get the feeling that Mrs. Fowler has been teaching for more than two years.  She has a special gift, as she is an outstanding teacher. Mrs. Fowler teaches fifth grade science and has hooked the fifth graders on science. It is amazing to visit her classroom and observe the engagement of the students. We are very proud of Mrs. Fowler and Mr. Price.
