From the Managing Director's Desk, February 17, 2019

Dear Viking Families,
We have received some AWESOME donations!  I can hardly wait for the Silent Auction so I can place my bid on several of the donated items.   Make sure you mark your calendars and plan to join us on February 23rd at Umstead Pines for the Diamonds and Denim event!

Lots of Athletic Celebrations to share! Our Swim Team and Wrestling team saw our student-athletes compete in Regional and State level competitions these past 2 weekends. Here is a summary:
Ten VAHS swimmers qualified for 1A/2A Regionals in individual events plus three more swam as part of relay teams.  Of these 13 swimmers, 10 qualified for 1A/2A States (plus 2 alternates), which I believe is an all-time school record.  At States, all three of the girl’s relay teams (comprising six swimmers) and one boy’s relay team (four swimmers) qualified for the State Finals.  Additionally, three swimmers (Cordi Murray, Ede Kosik, and Adam Cheifitz) qualified for the State Finals in five individual events. Thanks to Coach Stanley Bass for your commitment to our swimmers!

Reminder for all 11th graders:
The ACT College Admissions Assessment will be given free of charge to all eligible North
Carolina 11th graders on February 20, 2019. The ACT is part of North Carolina’s school
accountability program. The ACT results may be used at the high school level to identify students who need assistance with certain subject areas or academic skills, to evaluate effectiveness of instruction, and to make adjustments to curriculum in order to improve instruction. In addition, colleges use ACT scores for admissions decisions, course placement, academic advising, and loans and scholarships. Students participating in the statewide ACT administration can select for free up to four colleges to receive their ACT scores.
