Voyager Academy Elementary School News, Jan. 27, 2023

NEWS FROM ELEMENTARY:  We have already completed 100 days of school and have learned so much.  We are looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish during the second semester.  The following announcements will be helpful for you and your family for the week of January 30-February 03.

GREAT JOB VIKING CHEER TEAM:  It was so exciting to see our youngest Vikings cheering at the Voyager basketball game on Tuesday night.  We had over 100 young Vikings showing their school spirit and they made us proud!

BIRTHDAY ROCK SHOUT-OUT:  I wanted to give a BIG shout-out to the Voyager families for your creativity with the BIRTHDAY ROCK.  Our students and staff look forward to seeing the unique creation each day.  Thank you for making your student feel so special by painting the rock!

SUPER BOWL FRIDAY IS COMING TO VOYAGER ELEMENTARY ON FEBRUARY 10.

3RD GRADE MULTIPLICATION CHALLENGE ON FEB. 15:  The third grade students have been working hard to master their multiplication facts and now it is time to show off their skills.  The students will be going up against Mr. Manning and Mrs. Weiland in a Multiplication Showdown in February.  I hope the students are ready because Mr. Manning and Mrs. Weiland have been practicing.

CAR LINE REMINDER:  I want to remind everyone that it is very important to strive to follow all car line procedures so that we keep everyone safe.  If we all would just follow procedures, car line would run even smoother and more quickly.  Recently, we have had an issue with cars not waiting in the car line and trying to get back in the line at the road between the elementary school and the high school.  We have now placed our SRO at this location to help remind everyone of the importance of staying in line and waiting their turn.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK:  The PTSO of Voyager will be hosting TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK February 6–10.  Thank you to all Voyager families for the incredible love you show to our staff.  We are honored to partner with you.

100th DAY WAS SO MUCH FUN: Our students had a wonderful time celebrating the 100th day of school.  Students created 100 day posters, 100 day t-shirts and participated in numerous 100 day classroom activities.  It was great to celebrate with our students.  May here we come!

BLACK HISTORY MONTH READ IN:  During the month of February, we will be celebrating Black History Month.  We have numerous activities planned for the month.  We will begin Feb. 01 with a BLACK HISTORY READ-IN.  We are looking for parents, grandparents and community leaders who would be willing to come to school and read a book (that we will provide) to our students on Feb. 01st.  If this is something you would be able to do, please sign up on the link provided.

HEART HEALTH:  It is that time of year!! As we approach the month of February or Heart Month we get ready for heart healthy activities and challenges. We also look at ways to be kind-hearted. The American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge (KHC) gives us the opportunity to help others while taking care of our own healthy hearts. KHC is a fundraiser for the American Heart Association that also encourages a heart healthy lifestyle through physical activity and good nutrition.

We are introducing the project to students when they attend Physical Education classes this week. Our Heart-Healthy Station activities will take place during Physical Education classes the week of February 6-10.

Please click on the link to read the details from the American Heart Association. You can also scan the QR code in this letter to get directly to our Voyager Academy KHC webpage.

HOW CAN YOU HELP YOUR CHILD?  We are so thankful for the partnership we have with all of you as we seek to create the most solid independent learners possible.  What can you do to assist your child with this journey?

  • Read with your child each night and/or encourage them to read to you.  Practice makes better!

  • Have your child keep a journal where they are able to write down things they have learned, questions they have or ideas that have come to mind.  Students need practice writing.

  • If you have a 3rd grade student–please, please practice their multiplication tables each week.

  • Continue to encourage your student to work hard and to strive for excellence.  They can do it and we are confident of this!

YEARBOOK PURCHASE:  If you would like to order a yearbook please click on the link and follow the steps. You can order a yearbook for $22.00 until Feb 1st.  After Feb 1st the price will go up to $27.00.  The deadline for ordering yearbooks is March 1st.

As your child reads or you read to your child, please record the books on the reading log and return it to your child’s teacher once you have 15 books listed.  Your child can earn one free gift card per month.
