A Great Year! Thank You Class of 2018!

It’s been a terrific year at Voyager Academy High School.  As Dr. Nolan mentioned at the Senior Breakfast, the Seniors set the tone by serving as great role models for the underclassmen.  We have much to celebrate about their accomplishments. Next year they are studying in Peru, enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, attending college on athletic scholarships, (smartly) attending community college with plans for a bachelors’ degree or industry certification, and much more! They have set a high bar, but we are sure that the class of 2019 will meet that challenge.  To the class of 2018--THANK YOU!

Voyager Continues to Produce Top Scholar Athletes!
9 seniors signed to continue their athletic and academic careers at the college level; one of which was the first ever from Voyager to attend Duke University, and another to play basketball in the ACC (Wake Forest).

At Voyager, athletes are 3 times more likely to be athletes in college than the national average.

More Voyager Scholar Athlete Facts:
  • Four of our varsity teams finished in the top 10 in state championships, led by the tennis team, which was the regional runner up, wrestling finished 5th, men's soccer that lost in round of 8, and women's cross country that finished at #10.
  • Both our baseball and tennis teams earned number 1 seeds in the state playoffs for the first time in school history.
  • Voyager Athletics had great individual performances at the state championships:
    • Jacari Deal (click here) won the 170 pound 1A state championship in wrestling.
    • Rosie Scott-Benson finished 3rd in the women's 1A 3200 meter race all of which will return to Voyager next year.
    • Ben and Kolby McQuaid finished 2nd in the state tennis championship in 1A doubles.
    • In Chase Sykes was Conference Pitcher of the Year and Pitcher of the Year for Voyager Baseball
    • Aaron Beasley won Conference Player of the Year for Voyager Baseball.
    • Cole Scearce won Conference Golfer of the Year .
  • 6 of Voyager's student-athletes won Conference Player of the Year honors this year.
  • 3 coaches earned Conference Coach of the Year honors.
  • Perhaps most impressive, is that out of the top 10 GPA's for students graduating 6 were athletes.
  • Senior Isiah Bryant finished his Voyager wrestling career earning 3rd place at the 132 pound weight class in the 1A state championships.

An Important Message About Student Health
As you may or may not be aware, “vaping” and/or "juuling"(the use of E-cigarettes) has become an unhealthy trend among children and young adults, from middle through high school nationwide.  As the safety and health of our students is a top priority at VAHS, all students received a presentation on Feb. 13th about the effects of this unhealthy activity, as well as the Voyager Academy consequences.

To see the presentation that the students received, please click here.  Parents/guardians are encouraged to reinforce this very important message at home.

As always, thank you so much for your continued support.
