Voyager Academy Middle School News, Jan. 12, 2020

Hello Middle School Families,
I hope all of you had a great holiday and the New Year is off to a great start!  It was a terrific week at the middle school as the students returned ready to learn.  The middle school is extremely fortunate to have all of you at Voyager.

FYI – Reports cards for the second nine weeks were sent home with students on Friday.  If you did not receive your child’s report card, please ask them about it.  Remember to send the report card envelope back to school on Monday. If you have questions, please contact your child’s teacher!

National Geographic Geography Bee
The National Geographic Geography Bee has been held at the middle school for the last ten years.  Mrs. Michele Harris is our Geography Bee sponsor.  The students have already been studying and working with Mrs. Harris, Mr. Ellis and Mrs. Schulze. The Geography Bee will be held in Mrs. Harris’ room on January 30th. We wish our participants the best!

School Calendar for 2020-2021
Several of you have asked about the school calendar for the 2020-2021 school year.  The calendar is on Voyager's website.

Sunshine Award
Our Sunshine Committee has been very busy this year celebrating our teachers.  During each staff meeting, one of our teachers is recognized by his/her peers for the great work he/she is doing and how the teacher is an asset to VAMS.

This week our Sunshine Award was given to Katherine Graham. Mrs. McKenna presented the Sunshine Award to Mrs. Graham. What a fitting recipient as Mrs. Graham and her committee created the award to celebrate our wonderful middle school staff.

Congratulations
We are so very proud of one of our 8th grade students. Liz Lalor was featured in Durham Magazine. The magazine highlighted Liz's business, Moon and Sun Jewelry.  We are very proud of Liz for her shrewd business savvy and persistent determination in starting her own business. Way to go, Liz!

SchoolStore Fundraiser
Our teachers have been very busy shopping with the gift cards you purchased for them through the fundraiser, SchoolStore.  Several of our teachers have already received school supplies. Thank you!

On Friday your child/children took home an envelope from Spirit and Pride which is part of SchoolStore.  Spirit and Pride provides spirit wear. If you are interested in purchasing tshirts, sweatshirts, and/or hoodies, please complete your order and place your order form and payment in the Spirit and Pride envelope.  Checks are made payable to Spirit and Pride. Make sure student's name and parent signature are on the envelope. Send the envelope to the child's teacher. They will give to me. The spirit wear will be on sale until Friday, January 24. We will receive a percentage of the sales.   THANK YOU!

It’s back – Voyager’s Auction!  The date of the auction is March 27.  Mrs. McKenna and Mrs. Kelly Andrew are coordinating.  Be on the lookout for more information!
