Voyager Academy Middle School News, Oct. 9, 2020

Hello Middle School Parents,

Fall Break is here and I am sure all of you are looking forward to the break away from school.  I hope all of you have the opportunity to spend time together!

National Junior Honor Society:

At the end of the 4th quarter, we determine students who are candidates for the National Junior Honor Society.  In order to be considered for NJHS, students must have an average of 95 or higher in quarters one, two, and three. This is determined in 7th grade and based on core subject grades.  Students not only demonstrate excellence in the area of scholarship but also service, leadership, character, and citizenship.

Although we have selected the inductees, we have not had the opportunity to have our 2019-2020 induction ceremony.   Our Virtual Induction Ceremony will be held Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 5:00. We will send parents of our inductees a zoom link prior to the ceremony. If you have questions, feel free to email me at gjohnson@voyageracademy.net.

From Mrs. Farrish:

If you are interested in being a guest speaker as part of our career talks with students, we need you! We will be scheduling career talks after Fall Break.  If you are willing to share your educational and/or career journey with interested students, please let us know. Talks will take place over Zoom. Stay tuned for more information in the newsletter after Fall Break. If you already know you are interested,  please contact Tonya Farrish at tfarrish@voyageracademy.net

Students:  If you are interested in having a virtual lunch with Mrs. Farrish and Mrs. Johnson, we would enjoy having lunch with you.  We have missed you and want to hear how all is going!  Be on the lookout for the dates of our virtual lunches!  Time will be 12:00.  More to come!!!!!

Say Something Training:

On Friday, October 23rd, Voyager Academy Middle (6th-8th graders) will undergo training to launch the “Say Something Anonymous Reporting System” (SS-ARS).  This program teaches middle and high students, teachers, and administrators how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, of individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others and Say Something to a trusted adult OR use its anonymous reporting system.  The link below provides additional information about the program.

From Mrs. Johnson: Can you believe it?  We have completed the first quarter of the year.  I’m happy to share that we have lots of students who have been extremely successful this quarter as they have put forth much effort to be on time to class, to complete their work, and to turn in their work on time.  As we close out the quarter, I challenge all students to come back to school on Monday, Oct. 19 with the attitude that school is important even though school is remote.  We are still expected to be in class and complete our work.  We will be held accountable at the end of the year with the EOGs.  Thanks for supporting us as we support our Vikings!
