Newsies On A Mission!

Our production of Disney’s Newsies was a tremendous success! Students delivered four fantastic performances - three community shows and a special preview for our 2nd–5th graders - all playing to nearly full houses in our new Performing Arts Center! The cast and crew of 57 students shined onstage and behind the scenes, earning enthusiastic applause and rave reviews from patrons throughout the weekend. We’re very proud of their hard work, talent, and teamwork in bringing this energetic musical to life!

Mock Trial Dress Rehearsal

If you would like to watch the dress rehearsal for our Honors Mock Trial team (as they prepare for their regional competition in Feb), please join us on Tues. Dec. 2nd in the Voyager PAC during 3rd Period (12:30-2:08). They will be performing their roles as attorneys, witnesses, and timekeepers in a medical malpractice case.

DRIVERS ED: Non-DPS Student Registration & Class Information

To enroll in the Drivers Education class, a student will need to have a personal gmail email account (not a school account). If the student does not already have one, it is very advantageous to set this up a personal gmail account prior to registration.

FAFSA Tips For College Bound Seniors

Get your FSA IDs: Both parents and students need to create a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID. It’s basically a  secure, online signature for the FAFSA.

Tackle the paperwork dragon: The FAFSA might be easier now, but it still requires some prep. Gather your documents. You’ll need to know your bank account balances and the net worth of any businesses or investments. You don’t have to report the value of your primary home or your retirement accounts (like 401(k)s and IRAs). Knowing what to leave out is just as important as knowing what to put in

The Direct Data Exchange: This is a tool inside the FAFSA that automatically moves your PPY (Prior, Prior Year) tax information from the IRS into the FAFSA. You will sign an agreement giving your approval for this transfer of information. Just follow the prompts when you are completing the FAFSA.

The early bird gets the aid at some schools: The FAFSA opened on October 1st. Some state and college aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Once that money is gone, it’s gone. Filing early gives your student the best possible chance at getting all the aid they’re eligible for.

Don’t give up! You can appeal: Maybe your financial situation changed a lot after that PPY year. If you can show them what’s different, they might be able to adjust your student’s aid. It’s a bit of extra work, but it’s definitely worth a shot.

NC College Connect

Congratulations to the VAHS seniors who have earned eligibility for the NC College Connect program.  https://www.cfnc.org/nc-college-connect/. NC College Connect is a program that provides a simpler and faster way for students with a weighted 2.8 or higher to get admitted to college in North Carolina. Eligible seniors should have received a letter from the College Foundation of NC (CFNC) with a list of colleges and universities that they have been offered admission through the program. Information about next steps is included in the letter and at the website listed above. The Attached PowerPoint is also a great resource.
Please contact VAHS School Counselor, Jill O'Kane if there are additional questions.
