Voyager Academy Middle School News, May 13, 2018

Dear VAMS Families,

Wow, 10 more days of school and lots to do!

8th Grade Parents-
Thanks to all of you who attended Wednesday night’s meeting at the high school!  The students were thrilled to hear of upcoming activities. I know they are getting excited about high school.  Please remind them to keep focused as next week is really important!

Freshman Orientation Fall 2018 (deadline May 16)

As we make preparations for Voyager High School's Freshman Orientation on August 4-5, we need t-shirt sizes for the upcoming Freshman students. Please complete this Google Form no later than May 16th.

EOG Testing
Yes, we will be in school on May 16.  In fact, students in grades 4-8 will take the reading EOG on Wednesday, May 16.  On Thursday, May 17, grades 4-8 will take the math EOG. On Tuesday, May 22, students in grades 5 and 8 will take their science EOG and students in grades 6 and 7 will take a science Final Exam.  Finally on Wednesday, May 23, students in grades 5 – 8 will take a social studies Final Exam.

Students need to be on time as we will start promptly at 8:30 and all students need to be in their class at 8:15.  Once the teacher begins reading directions students may not enter late nor leave early.

EOG Testing and Proctors are needed!!!!
We need about 40 proctors on May 16 and 40 proctors on May 17.  If you are available to spend the morning with us, please email me as soon as possible.  We will also need about 15 proctors on May 22. We certainly appreciate any help you can give us.  Thanks to those of you who responded to the request that I email earlier this week. Please email Laura Howell at  lhowell@voyageracademy.net.

8th Grade Presentation of Learning
Many of you attended our 8th graders POL (Presentation of Learning).  The students shared all the projects completed throughout the year.  It was amazing to hear from all of the students as they shared the year’s projects.

National Junior Honor Society Induction
Our yearly National Junior Honor Society Induction was Monday night.  Our current National Junior Honor Society members led the ceremony. The students were terrific as they introduced speakers, shared reflections, read statements about the Principles, and provided lovely music.  The inductees were focused as they listened to service activities completed this year. They also heard about the requirements of National Junior Honor Society. We look forward to working with the 32 new members of NJHS members.

C.O.L.E.
We are so excited to have 2 C.O.L.E. teams participate in competition on Saturday.  C.O.L.E. is the charter school version of Battle of the Books. Our 4th and 5th graders have been practicing for several months.  They first had to read several books and to become the expert on some of the books.  Once the students completed reading the books, they began practicing for the competition answering questions about the books.  We know they will represent Voyager Middle School well!
