From the Voyager Academy Board, Aug. 26, 2019

Board Message
The Board would like to take this opportunity to share that we will soon begin a national search for Voyager’s next Managing Director.  We are grateful for Jennifer Lucas’ dedication and leadership as Voyager Academy’s Managing Director for the past five years, and we are pleased that Ms. Lucas has agreed to continue in her role for the 2019-20 academic year.
Under Ms. Lucas’ leadership, the school has exceeded expected academic growth as measured by the State as we reached our highest school performance grade since our inception, planned for and completed Viking Stadium, secured a full accreditation status, earned an investment grade rating that speaks to our financial stability, and received positive recognition at the state level through Ms. Lucas’ position as the Co-Chair of the North Carolina Association for Public Charter Schools.  In the past five years, Voyager students have achieved local, regional, and state level awards in academics, team sports, individual sports, and performing arts.  In addition, Voyager has developed multiple opportunities for our high school students to achieve college credit and degrees or certification through our College and Career partnership program. Under Ms. Lucas' leadership, the amount of scholarship dollars awarded to our graduating seniors in academics and athletics has grown, and many of our graduates are earning admission to colleges of their choice.

The Board looks forward to continuing to collaborate with Ms. Lucas as she leads the school this year with particular focus on beginning the implementation of the school’s new strategic plan.  In the meantime, now is the right time for Voyager to look to the future by starting a comprehensive search for our next Managing Director.  We believe that the school is in a terrific position to bring in an onsite leader who can build on the tremendous progress the school has made under Ms. Lucas. We know you may have many questions about this process, and we are committed to keeping you informed as the process unfolds.  As always, please do not hesitate to contact one of us if you have any questions, feedback, or concerns.
