Voyager Academy Middle School News, Feb. 16, 2020

Hello Middle School Families,
Happy belated Valentine’s Day!  Friday was a terrific day at Voyager Middle School!  Our students were excited due to Valentine’s Day. Our Theatre Arts Program was very successful with their Valentine Gram Fundraiser. The team shared that 200 grams were purchased and delivered to middle school friends. I used the Valentine Gram fundraiser to surprise members of my ACT (Achieving Character Together) group. Thanks Mrs. Thompson and Ms. Wicker for providing this opportunity to students and staff!

EOG Dates – PLEASE PUT ON YOUR CALENDAR
Wednesday, May 13 – Reading, 4th – 8th
Thursday, May 14 -      Math, 4th – 8th
Friday, May 15 -     5th and 8th Grade Science

Basketball Teams
Congratulations to our girls’ and boys’ basketball teams!  Both teams were successful against Roxboro Charter so they move to the semi-final round of the tournament.  The semi-final games are Monday night. The girls play at 4:30 and the boys play at 5:30. Both games are played at Voyager Middle School.  Please come to support our teams.

No School
Just a reminder there is no school for students on Monday nor Tuesday as both are Teacher Workdays and our teachers will be in professional development training!  See you Wednesday morning in carline.

Speaking of carline, our SRO officers have asked that I remind you of our dismissal procedure.  IF you are only picking up a middle school student/students, you SHOULD NOT begin lining up on Ben Franklin Rd until 1:10 (Mondays) or 3:10 (Tuesday-Friday).  When the middle school is lined up prior to the above times, we cause the ES to delay in their dismissal and it is not safe to have a long line on Ben Franklin. As you know our carline moves quickly, even on rainy days, so please follow the procedure.

8th Grade Business Projects
Our 8th grade Business Project was Monday, February 10. The 8th graders had at least 20 businesses on display. There was jewelry, cupcakes, opportunities for games, such as bowling, milk shakes, cards, wooden items, and stickers---just to name a few! Our 8th graders learned lots about creating a business, determining how to sell their items and make profit from their sells.   All proceeds will be donated to Vet to Vet, Duke Children’s Hospital and St. Jude’s. Our 4th-5th graders had a great shopping and based on the positive feedback we received our teachers and parents also enjoyed shopping.

Capital Campaign
Thank you to the very generous donors who have given to our capital campaign to purchase school buses for all students. If you haven’t already donated, please consider “Giving to Voyager” for our capital campaign fundraiser. We need activity buses to help transport our kids to all the wonderful events and activities they enjoy such as field trips, sporting events, arts competitions and much more.  Please visit the donations page here: https://www.voyageracademy.net/support-voyager/
You can simply donate through the paypal link or you can view many different “sponsorship opportunities” by downloading the sponsor forms below the link. Your donations can also provide you or your company with advertising, banners, and other great benefits when you support the Voyager community.  If you need additional information on sponsorships opportunities please email me directly at jlucas@voyageracademy.net

Some families have asked if they can send in a check made out to Voyager Academy Capital Campaign and the answer is of course you can! Please send a check in a sealed envelope and Capital Campaign on the outside so your child’s teacher can make sure it makes its way into the business office. If you would like a receipt we will certainly send you one via email and we thank you in advance for your support.

Teacher Appreciation Week – Info from the PTO
Teacher Appreciation Week was February 10-14, 2020. On behalf of the entire middle school staff, we THANK YOU for a terrific week.  The week began with breakfast items Monday morning, Tuesday the staff received many Thank You cards for all that is done in the classroom and many snacks were provided to the teachers on Wednesday.  On Thursday we enjoyed our scheduled PTO lunch. Thanks for the terrific lunch as well as providing lunch coverage for teachers to enjoy their lunch with other staff members. Friday was quite a surprise as Texas Roadhouse catered a delicious lunch!! The teachers were also given a very nice gift card.  To all of you, the middle school staff says Thank YOU and we appreciate each of you!
