Voyager Academy Middle School News, Sept. 30, 2017

Dear VAMS Families,

Thanks to all of you who donated gift cards to be sent to Smith Academy in Houston, Texas.  We will ship them to the principal early next week.  If you would like to purchase a gift card, please do and send to school Monday.  Remember we are sending Walmart, Target, and Amazon gift cards.

Our Student Council officers sold snacks during lunch on Thursday.  Student Council made  $650. 00.  The money will be used to purchase gift cards for Smith Academy.  The students were terrific sales people as they were very close to selling out of items. They were very polite as they took orders, filled the order, and collected money.   We are proud of our Student Council and the ownership each of them had for their first service project.  THANKS to Mrs. Dana King for helping the Student Council!

Fall Break Basketball Skills Camp
Voyager Basketball Coach Mike Huff is offering a 3-day basketball skills camp for boys and girls in grades 3-8 Monday-Wednesday of fall break.  Camp runs from 9:00-12:00, with early dropoff available for a small extra fee.  If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Coach Huff at mhuff@voyageracademy.net.

We are in need of umbrellas for carline.  If you have an umbrella you do not need or willing to purchase an umbrella, we would certainly appreciate your donation.  Please send to Mrs. Johnson’s office.  Thanks so much!

On October 5th, Mr. Price and Mrs. Miller will attend an educational banquet in Raleigh.  Some of our 6th graders will join Mr. Price and Mrs. Miller.  The teachers and students received an invitation from Governor Cooper.  The purpose of their visit is to share the 6th Grade Space Colony Project.  Way to go 6th graders!

Our many Lost and Found items are in the lobby.  The items (gym clothes, jackets, books, water bottles, lunch boxes, etc.) will be in the lobby until Thursday, Oct. 5.  On October 5, we will donate all items to a charity.

8th Grade--- If you read last week’s newsletter, you remember that in social studies our 8th graders have been discussing current events, as well as, spending much time understanding the meaning of Legacy. On Wednesday the 8th graders toured Durham and learned much about Durham and the legacy of Durham.  What a great trip for our 8th graders!
