Project Exhibition Day Is Mon. April 8, 2-3:45pm, And You’re Invited! Celebrate PBL With Us

The Voyager Academy community is warmly invited to Spring 2024  Voyager Academy High School Project Exhibition Day. Come see student projects in action and on full display, as we celebrate Project Based Learning.  Exhibition Day takes place at the high school on April 8, Monday, 2-3:45pm.

Senior Breakfast Donations Needed

The Senior Breakfast and Awards Ceremony is is a tribute to our seniors, and will take place in the VAHS gym for seniors and their parents on Weds, May 1, 2024 from 8:45-10:30. We are asking for donations from our 9th-11th grade families. Please see the suggested food items below and sign up to provide an item if you can. Thank you!

Dance Performance Night is April 18th 7:00pm!

Join the high school dance classes for Dance Performance Night 2024 on Thursday, April 18th at 7:00pm held at New Horizon Church.  Enjoy an evening of amazing dance pieces choreographed by students and faculty.  Tickets are $10 and may be purchased either online or at the door.  Doors open at 6:30.  Show begins at 7:00 and lasts approximately an hour.

Juniors: Start working on the Common (College) Application now!

Common App's account rollover allows students to create an account when they are ready to explore the application. Students can add essential details to their accounts and seamlessly transfer most of that information when the new application cycle begins on August 1. This feature is especially beneficial for students weighing multiple college choices or seeking to jumpstart their college planning.

Student Leadership Opportunity

Note in the Pocket offers an exciting Student Leadership Program for High School students. Through this program, students will further develop their leadership skills while learning more about their community through volunteer and service projects. The program includes  Teen Board and Ambassador cohorts. Applications for the 2024-2025 Teen Board cohort are now open and the deadline to apply is April 15. 

Teen Board students complete a variety of projects including volunteer service, hosting clothing drives and fundraisers, and raising awareness for Note in the Pocket's mission. The Teen Board meets monthly and hears from industry leading guest speakers on a variety of topics including Public Speaking, Marketing & Communications, Volunteerism, and Starting their own Nonprofit. Students are put in small groups and work with a Mentor to complete their project plans.

Students in grades 9-11 (including rising 9th graders) are invited to apply. Please see the application link below and the attached flyer. Applications will be reviewed in early May and select students will be invited to complete and interview. Selected students will be invited to join the Teen Board in early June. Students are asked to complete summer volunteer hours and the monthly meetings will be held September 2024-May 2025.

Bull City Lights Auditions are Happening NOW!

2024 Senior Breakfast and Awards Ceremony Is May 1, 2024

Save the date! The VAHS Class of 2024 Senior Breakfast and Awards Ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday May 1, 2024 from 8:45-10:30 in the VAHS Gym. All Seniors and parents/guardians are invited to attend.

Share the Love by donating to the Voyager Academy Performing Arts Center! Voyager will be paying for the entire construction of the building with reserves saved over the years. However, we need your help to furnish the interior of the auditorium and with the purchase of instruments.

Your donation will go directly towards:

  • Sound Equipment

  • Stage Lights

  • Stage Curtain

  • Audiovisual system

  • 400+ Theatre Seats

  • Instruments for students

The “Next Step”: Career Exploration Program for Juniors

The College Foundation of NC (CFNC) Next Step 2024 program is available February 19th through May 31st for all  NC high school juniors and parents! The program is designed for Juniors to: share their plans and needs, Connect with NC colleges, and join the online program to take steps toward achieving their college or workforce/career goals.

New DPS Driver's Ed Classes

A new March Driver's Ed class has been added to the spring class schedule for non-DPS students attending school in Durham County.

Any rising 11th and 12th grade student with a 2.75 GPA is eligible to take free dual enrollment classes through the CCP (Career and College Promise) program.

STEM Opportunity for High School Sophomores AT NCSU

NCSU SATELLITE is a five-day STEM outreach and leadership development program with the goal of exposing high school sophomores from under-resourced communities in North Carolina to post-secondary educational opportunities in STEM and its many disciplines. SATELLITE Campers have had the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities including a field trip to the Museum of Natural Sciences, an egg drop competition, plant biology seminars, workshops in paper science engineering, textiles and design, game theory, and hands-on life sciences demonstrations led by genuine NC State faculty and students. SATELLITE’s mission is fueled by our desire and passion to help close the higher educational divide among communities through equitable opportunities and exposure.
