Voyager Academy Elementary School News Dec. 15, 2019

Hi!
It’s that time of the year.  Lots of excitement, kind act and busy, busy folks all around.  We can’t seem to find the time for all we want to do.

Professional Development:   This Monday, our staff will be team  building and celebrating the season together and learn more about each other.

Voyager Academy Middle School News, Dec. 15, 2019

Hello Middle School Families,
It's been a busy week at Voyager Middle School. Our staff had professional development as we reviewed Project Based Learning and how to strengthen our project work.  Our sixth graders spent the week at Durham Arts Council preparing to present their play projects to our fifth graders and to their parents. Our 7th/8th grade music and drama classes prepared to present the musical The Rainbow Fish.  The singers, dancers, and cast were awesome. Our Student Council had a Snack Sale to raise money to support their service projects. Let’s not forget our athletes as our girls’ and guys’ basketball teams had a home game.  Both teams played hard and were very successful against Excelsior Charter School. In addition to all the projects, performances, sales, and games our students continued to work on their class assignments.

From the Voyager Academy Managing Director, Dec. 1, 2019

Good Morning,

We hope that each and every one of you enjoyed a Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family and are ready to return to us with a full heart and spirit as we finish out the next few weeks of school through winter break.

As many of you likely heard during the break, one of our Voyager family has lost his battle with cancer during the break. Coach Pete Shankle will be missed by so many of our families, current and former, for his strength, his integrity, his dedication to our program and his love for his student athletes.  We share with you the links to some local articles that provide just a bit of the accomplishments and celebrations for Coach Shankle.

Our building counselors will be available for any staff or students who would like to talk and share their feelings or need support. As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns you may have.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow on time and ready for a great week at school!

Regards,

Jennifer Lucas, M.ED.

Hello Middle School Families,
Wow, what a busy week!  We completed our first round of the NC Check Ins.  The students put forth much effort. Our Check Ins will provide our teachers with data that will help them determine areas or skills needing additional support or areas or skills that are strong areas for the students.  Information that we receive will be used during MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) time to provide support or acceleration to our students.

Hi!

This is the season to be thankful and grateful for all of our many blessings.  I have so many things to be thankful for and near the very top is our teachers and staff at the elementary school, our students and their families.  I hope you can stop and take a breath and look at the positives in your life and take time to be thankful. I am appreciative you for allowing us to serve your children. It is an honor to know you trust us with your most precious possession of all.   It is a true blessing to know them, to teach them and to see the light bulb come on when they learn something new. Our profession is hard and at the same time oh so rewarding.

Voyager Academy Middle School News, Nov. 17, 2019

The cool weather is finally here so please make sure your children have coats/sweaters for outdoor activities.  As you know, at this time, we will continue to follow the DPS weather plans for closures and delays as needed. We have seen some forecasts that predict snow in the next couple of weeks although we hope that we have a dry winter! Voyager Academy Elementary School News, Nov. 10, 2019

Hi!

Another very busy week for staff and students at Voyager.  We are all working hard teaching, learning, monitoring progress and make good decisions for each child.  We have continued viewing Istation during select Professional Development time, sent first trimester report cards home last Friday, placed students on Success Plans to ensure their success and our other daily tasks.  A teacher’s work is never done, and we have a great staff who works hard every day. I’m so grateful for them.

Voyager Academy Middle School News, Nov. 10, 2019

Dear VAMS Families,

First, I want to say THANK YOU for making my birthday on Friday a very special one!  The students created a banner and the majority of our students signed it one morning when I was at car line.  I appreciate all the emails, cards, kind words, hugs, delicious Banana Bread, Pumpkin Bread, flowers, lunch and I could go on and on! Your children certainly know how to make one feel special!  Again, thanks!
