Voyager Academy Middle School News, Feb. 11, 2018

Dear VAMS Families,

8th grade parents,
Please put February 12th on your calendar! On Feb. 12, we will have a high school information session for all rising 9th graders and their parents. We will meet in the middle school gym at 6:00. You will learn valuable info about scheduling, courses, etc. that will help you make decisions regarding next year. I’ve heard some of the info that will be shared with you and I think you and your 8th grader will be excited about high school when you leave the meeting!

Mr. Smith
We said “So long” to Mr. Smith this week.  Mr. Smith is in the process of opening a charter school in Sanford, NC.  The school will be grades 6-12.  Mr. Smith needed to spend more time in Sanford as it is time for the lottery and hiring of teachers.  We wish Mr. Smith much success!

Mr. Mitchell
We welcome Mr. Richie Mitchell!  Mr. Mitchell is now the assistant principal of the middle school. He brings 18 years of school experience.  He has worked in charter schools and worked with middle and high school students.  Things to know about Mr. Mitchell – He is very excited to be at Voyager.  If he were not in education, he would coach basketball or baseball.  Before coming to NC, he lived in Maryland.  He speaks 5 languages and  the fact that is MOST important to Mrs. Johnson--------Mr. Mitchell is a TARHEEL!!!!   Stop by to meet Mr. Mitchell!

Special Recognition
Congratulations to Daylea Mickle and Kaymille Sherman!  Daylea and Kaymille entered the VFW’s Patriots Pen Essay Competition.  Kaymille placed first in the competition at the post level.  Because she placed first, her essay was entered into the District Level competition.  Kaymille placed third at the District Level.    Daylea placed third at the post level.   Both students received a beautiful certificate, pin, and a monetary gift.  The winners were recognized by Bernardine Donato, Sr. Vice Commander of the VFW Post 2740 in Durham.  Kaymille and Dayle are seventh graders.  We are very proud of both students! Thank you, Mr. Ellis, for encouraging the students to enter the contest.

Car Line
Wow, car line is going great!  Thanks to all of you who have your sign in your car window and the 4 digits on the sign.  I am asking that you are in car line no later than 3:40 so we can finish by 3:45.  Thanks to those of you getting to car line on time.  We will walk students to after school if they are not picked up on time.  Rain, sleet, snow, or sun ---- Mrs. Mangano says “Car line must go on!”

FROM Ricci McKenna
Please help make our Teacher Appreciation Week a success. We are fortunate to have wonderful teachers and staff at Voyager Academy.  The Hospitality Committee has planned lunch on Tuesday, February 13th but cannot make it a success without your help.  Please review the link below and volunteer to help with food and or time.  We need a variety of dishes as well  help cleaning and covering our teacher's lunch periods.  The teachers love being able to spend time with their peers and enjoy the lunch coverage.  Please consider donating your time!   Thanks in advance for your consideration.
