Voyager Academy Middle School News, September 23, 2018

Dear VAMS Families,

Hello to all Middle School families,
This week was a very interesting week!  There were storms, lots of rain, and delayed openings.  Even with heavy rain, tornado warnings, and fire drills, our students and staff remained focused on the tasks at hand!  Students were amazing during the warnings and drills. They took all of them very seriously!

Our teachers continue to teach the standards required by DPI.  They are also working on our Core Values. Core values are extremely important as we help develop well-rounded students. It’s our belief that students need the academic component of school along with the social part of school.  We want to support our students so they become solid citizens.

Supporting Our Wilmington Neighbors:
This week we have talked about ways to support our neighbors to the east of us.  We decided to support the efforts of Voyager’s Bass Assassins. The Bass Assassins is a fishing club at the high school.  Voyager Bass Assassins is partnering with an amazing Voyager alumni, Nicholas Meyer, who has formed a student-led organization out of UNC-W that is collecting donations for hurricane victims in the Wilmington area. Boxes have been placed at each school where donations can be placed.
While WeWilmRebuild is going to focus their efforts on the human side of those affected by Florence, VAHS Bass Assassins, being an outdoorsman based organization will also focus their efforts on the four legged (and others) victims. All donations will be collected throughout the month of September and the Voyager Bass Assassins will deliver them to Nicholas and his crew for distribution.
Items being collected are: non-perishable food, water, toiletries, clothes, tarps, batteries, feminine supplies, first air supplies, diapers, baby food, food for pets, treats for pets, and leashes for pets.

We need your support!  We have boxes located in the lobby at the middle school. Bring your donations during the day or send the donations with your child/children.

Thanks for supporting our Pink Out game and helping raise $540 for the Sister’s Network.  The Sister’s Network is a group of ladies who are cancer survivors. They spread the world about ways to help others with cancer.  We had 3 cancer survivors attend our game. Thanks to these ladies for supporting our volleyball team on our Volley for the Cure game better known as PINK OUT night!
