November is Empathy Month at VAHS

em·pa·thy
/ˈempəTHē/
noun
The ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

As Voyager Academy continues its effort to inspire and instill its core values of Confidence, Curiosity, Empathy, Integrity, and Reflection, VAHS designates November as Empathy Month.  Please feel free to encourage this value at home as well, as we help our students continue to learn to care about others.

Please Join Us in Our First Ever Silent Auction Benefit At Umstead Pines
This is an all-school, parent event to socialize and have fun. All K-12 parents are invited and encouraged to attend! There will be food, music, friends, colleagues, a cash bar, and most importantly, memories. Your contribution to this event will help make it a night to remember!

All the money raised will go right back into Voyager. We will use the money raised to help Voyager families who need support-- things like funding field trips, purchasing school supplies, and covering participation fees for sports and the arts. We will also use money raised to further develop our arts and technology departments.

The Voyager Bass Assassins Bring Home Trophy for VAHS
We had an amazing day on the water yesterday at the Riley’s Cup tournament on beautiful Lake Norman! The tournament is in its third year and we were so excited to go and participate in such an amazing event for such a special cause. The students had a blast on the water and got to meet some amazing people including 2014 Bass Masters champion Randy Howell who talked to them all about his time fishing Falls, Kerr, and Lake Gaston as a kid! This tournament was started to honor a special young angler who had a dream to share his passion and love for fishing with his classmates just like our Bass Assassins. Unfortunately his time was cut way to short! You can read his story here http://rileyscatch.com/about/

The students competed in a pool of 53 boats with our three teams all bringing in fish to weigh. The team of Avery Doughty/Austin Haney placed 32nd with 4 fish weighing in at 4.42 lbs. The team of Casey Hudson/Cade Dunn finished 19th weighing in 5 fish with a combined weight of 6.69 lbs and last but not least the team of Brycen Hendriks/Kyle Dillon brought home the trophies for their second place win weighing in 5 fish for a combined weight of 10.64 lbs.

VAHS Bass Assassins Take the Prize on Jordan

Another great day of fishing last weekend on Jordan Lake by four of our Bass Assassin's teams. The team of Kyle Dillon and Brycen Hendriks took 2nd place. We had three other teams placing as well...Tyler McLamb/Austin Haney, Collin Tunstall/Casey Hudson, and Avery Doughty/Cade Dunn took 5th, 6th, and 7th respectively. This week we are off to beautiful Lake Norman for the Riley's Cup Tournament.

The team also held a fundraising bake sale this week which was a huge success. Thanks you to all the bass team parents who provided "goodies" for us to sell. We will be starting to sell Hershey Candy bars for our next fundraiser so be on the lookout for the bright orange boxes.
We had a great time at Fall Festival this year with our first ever pitch-and-cast fundraising stand. We enjoyed showing the children how to use the fishing poles and have some future fishers in the bunch for sure!

The project will give all of Mr. Baker's Personal Finance students the chance to participate in a job interview. Any adults in the Voyager Family who would be willing and able to help with this Interview Project, please contact Mr. Baker at dbaker@voyageracademy.net.
