Voyager Academy Middle School News, November 18, 2018

Dear VAMS Families,
It’s great to see the sun shining as the week has been a rainy one.  Even though it was very dreary outside, there was much excitement inside the building.  Teachers continue to amaze me with the quality lessons presented to the students. The students continue to be engaged in a variety of learning strategies and techniques.

Our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders completed their NC Check Ins.  The Check Ins are different from our previous benchmarks.  There are less questions on the Check Ins and the Check Ins do not provide a projected EOG score.  The Check Ins provide the percentage of questions each student answered correctly and provides teachers with a spreadsheet sharing how each student performed as well as a class spreadsheet indicating areas of strengths and areas that need additional work.

It’s hard to believe next week is Thanksgiving!  Many of you have shared your Thanksgiving travel plans.  Be careful on the road or in the air or on the boat! I hope you are making time for you and your family to spend quality time together and to share the meaning of Thanksgiving.

As I reflect on the year, I am thankful for each of you!  I appreciate the fact that you have chosen to send your child (children) to Voyager.  I also appreciate all that you do to make Voyager the terrific school that it is. At the middle school, we continue to talk with our students about our Core Values and why we have Core Values at Voyager.  We also spend time talking about bullying and mean behavior and the consequences for such behaviors. Our staff continues to monitor students whether the students are in the classrooms or in the halls. Students certainly know the expectations and it is up to each student to do what is expected!  If you have questions, feel free to contact your child’s teacher or contact me.

Mr. Price has his Teacher of the Year interview Monday afternoon.  We are all cheering for him and wish him the best during the interview!  Go, Mr. Price, Go!!!!!
