Voyager Academy Middle School News, January 20, 2019

Dear VAMS Families,
Wow, what a busy week.  Our 4th and 8th graders completed Round 2 of NC Check Ins.  They had reading and math. The students worked very hard and most of the students used all of their allotted time.  Next week 5th grade will administer NC Check Ins.  The Check Ins provide teachers with information regarding individual strengths and areas needing attention, as well as, class period strengths and areas needing attention.

PTO Staff Lunch – Thank you so much for the delicious lunch provided to staff on Friday.  We also appreciate those of you who covered classes so grade level teams could eat lunch together.  We truly appreciate ALL of you!

Spring Sports Interest Meeting – If your 6th, 7th, and/or 8th grader would like to play a spring sport, he/she needs to attend the Spring Sports Interest Meeting on Thursday, January 24.  It will be held in the gym during their lunch period. Spring sports are baseball, softball, girls’ soccer, and boys’ tennis.

Aladdin is Coming – Yes, another fabulous musical is on the way!  Aladdin will be performed at the middle school on April 4, April 5, and April 6.

Pennies for Pender – Wow, what a great beginning to our collection.  We will continue to collect throughout the remainder of January. Remember we are collecting pennies, as well as, other coins or dollars for Pender County Schools.  Once our collection is over, we will cash in the coins and purchase a gift card.  The gift card will be sent to the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum so she can purchase supplies that are needed for students. There will be a jar in the office for students to dump their coins or dollars each morning. PLEASE help us support students who lost lots of supplies during Hurricane Florence.

One day next week I am going to walk car line in the afternoon in hopes to fill a jar. I will let you know ahead of time!

Report Cards - I know you are wondering where the report cards are as they were scheduled to go home Friday.  At the beginning of the school year, the teachers were trained on PowerSchool Pro and began using in August.  The Department of Public Instruction is checking PowerSchool Pro to ensure that the system is working correctly.  They have asked schools to hold the printing of report cards until they double check some of the tools in Power School Pro.  Hopefully they will complete their work quickly so we can print report cards and send them home.  Grades have been entered into Power School Pro and are ready --just waiting for the go ahead.  I will let you know when report cards will be sent home!  WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR DPI!
Car LineThanks to all Middle School Only parents/grandparents for coming at 1:20 on Mondays and 3:20 on Tuesdays-Fridays.  It really helps traffic move smoothly for the elementary school and for the middle school. THANK YOU!
