Voyager Academy Middle School News, March 10, 2019

Dear VAMS Families,
Friday, March 8 was the last day of the third quarter!  I hope all of our students completed their assignments as teachers must have grades in PowerSchool by Tuesday afternoon.  Third quarter report cards will be sent home on Friday, March 15. The fourth and final quarter begins Wednesday, March 13th.

Principal of the Day
One of the auction items was Principal of the Day at the Middle School.  Cannon Draughon’s family had the highest bid so Cannon was Principal of the Day on Thursday.  He was extremely busy! He visited each classroom to observe student learning. He spent time in the gym helping Mr. Owen.  Principal Draughon helped prepare letters that were placed in the mail on Friday. He attended the lottery to see how many new students will enter the middle school. He ended the day helping with car line. Principal Draughon has terrific leadership skills!  I thoroughly enjoyed working with him!

Rising 9th Graders
All 8th graders should have returned their scheduling form to their homeroom teacher.  Even if your child is not attending Voyager next year, we ask that a scheduling form be completed JUST in case there is a change in your child’s high school.

Yearbook Orders
Order your yearbook now!  You can order online or you can complete the information on the order form that was sent home with all students and include your payment in the envelope.  Checks should be made payable to Strawbridge. If you order online, go to strawbridge.net. The online code is 108404.

Memory Ad for 8th Graders
Memory ads are always a great way to celebrate the end of the middle school years and the beginning of high school.  All 8th graders should have taken home a Memory Ad form this past Tuesday.  Ads need to be returned to Ms. Pam.

Spelling Bee
Carolina Hennessee is representing Voyager this weekend as she completes in North Carolina’s Regional Spelling Bee.  Carolina, we are proud of you and are pulling for you!

Aladdin is Coming – Yes, another fabulous musical is on the way!  Aladdin will be performed at the middle school on April 4, April 5, and April 6.  Please put these dates on your calendar!
8th Grade Graduation – Many of you have asked about our 8th Grade Graduation.  Our 8th Grade Celebration, not graduation, is scheduled for Friday, May 24.  We will begin at 8:45 and it is usually an hour. 8th graders may leave after the celebration.

Sports
Our student athletes spent much time preparing for their first game or match.  Our tennis team played twice this week and our softball, baseball, and soccer team began play on Friday.  Good luck to our student athletes!!!!!

Doug Price
As you know Mr. Price is North Carolina’s Charter School Teacher of the Year.  On Friday night Mr. Price and the 8 regional Teachers of the Year were guests at the Carolina Hurricanes game.  We are so proud of Mr. Price as he serves as NC Charter Schools’ Teacher of the Year!
