From the Managing Director's Desk, Feb. 23, 2020

Good Afternoon Viking Families,

Wow! What a week of snow days! We hope you enjoyed a little bit of extra time (albeit unexpected) with your family and enjoyed the snow. After such a short week we are ready to see all our students tomorrow on time and ready to learn!

Exciting news from this weekend for our Bull City Lights and Sound! No amount of weather could keep this group from heading to West Virginia to complete.  Out of 12 groups competing, we scored the highest ranking possible in concert choir, & for show choir, we we placed 4th in our division against some amazing schools. This time, we were placed for the first time ever in large division because of the size of our group. This meant we were actually competing with groups that had 50+ members.

Awards:
Showmanship: Cylie Cabrera
Spirit of Show Choir Award (this is an honor given to the school at the competition noticed for their sportsmanship & overall supportive spirit throughout the day—we so proud of them!)

***Please mark your calendars for our 2nd Annual Auction and Gala. The evening is open to all!
When: March 27th 7PM
Where: Umstead Pines Golf and Swim Club
Invite friends and family to join us. We will be auctioning off sports memorabilia, tickets to local events, baskets filled with awesome items and more. All proceeds will go towards much needed school buses to help transport students to/from field trips, sporting events and other activities we struggle to get our students to.   It's an all school, parent only event. Please join us!

IMPORTANT TESTING UPDATE:
The ACT College Admissions Assessment will be given free of charge to all eligible North Carolina 11th graders on February 25, 2020. The ACT is part of North Carolina’s school accountability program.

The ACT results may be used at the high school level to identify students who need assistance with certain subject areas or academic skills, to evaluate effectiveness of instruction, and to make adjustments to curriculum in order to improve instruction. In addition, colleges use ACT scores for admissions decisions, course placement, academic advising, and loans and scholarships. Students participating in the statewide ACT administration can select for free up to four colleges to receive their ACT scores.

Students should arrive at school and report to the High School gym by 8:30 am as testing will begin promptly at 8:45 am. Students will not be admitted to the testing room after 8:45 am.  Please make sure your student brings several #2 pencils and a calculator. No food, drink or electronic devices will be allowed in the testing room.

For additional information about the ACT you can visit: https://www.act.org/content/act/en/students-and-parents.html

We are continuing to raise money through our Capital Campaign for activity buses for field trips, extracurricular activities, and more.  This year's auction proceeds will support the campaign.  Please make plans to attend the auction on March 27. It was a great event last year, with terrific auction items, fun people, and basketball available on TV for March madness fans!  In addition to being a great event to raise money for our school, it is an opportunity to get together with your Voyager friends and community.  If you cannot attend, we are still accepting donations for the capital campaign through our website, at https://www.voyageracademy.net/support-voyager/.  We greatly appreciate your support!
