From the Managing Director's Desk, Feb. 9, 2020

Good Afternoon Viking Families,

First let us say thank you so much for all the families who supported us last week during the inclement weather and for helping us ensure student safety. We know that Friday was an inconvenience after starting school and then dismissing, but we do our best with the information we have, but this time around we didn’t get it right.  We hope you enjoyed the day off, and we look forward to seeing everyone on Monday. Below is a message form the Governing Board. Please note the link inside the message to our Board application for anyone interested in joining our Board. Below that, please see the information to sign up for Spring Break drivers ed class.

Board Update:

Dear Voyager Community,

Here are a few updates from the Board.

-Marlee Krieger recently joined the Board of Directors.  She is executive director of the Center for Women's Global Health Technologies at Duke.  She has global research experience, has been an advocate for empowering and educating girls, and has previously coached Science Olympiad.  She also has experience with another local charter school.  We are excited to welcome her to the board.

-We are in the beginning stages of recruiting two board members to join us in 2020-2021 for four year terms.  This is a great opportunity to serve the school in a meaningful way.  We are especially interested in finding at least one board member with financial expertise, but we welcome all applications.  To apply, please send a resume and application form to sbrennan@voyageracademy.net and/or jlucas@voyageracademy.net.   You can find the application at  https://www.voyageracademy.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/VA-Board-Application-2020-final-copy-converted.pdf.

-We are continuing to raise money through our Capital Campaign for activity buses for field trips, extracurricular activities, and more.  This year's auction proceeds will support the campaign.  Please make plans to attend the auction on March 27. It was a great event last year, with terrific auction items, fun people, and basketball available on TV for March madness fans!  In addition to being a great event to raise money for our school, it is an opportunity to get together with your Voyager friends and community.  If you cannot attend, we are still accepting donations for the capital campaign through our website, at https://www.voyageracademy.net/support-voyager/.  We greatly appreciate your support!

-Coleman Lew, our search firm, is currently accepting applications for the managing director position.  If you know any well qualified candidates, please direct them to our website for more information and to apply.  The search committee expects to meet with Coleman Lew in mid-February and we will begin interviewing candidates later this Spring.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions and concerns.  All are invited to join us for our next board meeting, February 27 at 5:15 pm at the High School.

Parents,
Please mark your calendars for our 2nd Annual Auction and Gala. The evening is open to all!
When: March 27th 7PM
Where: Umstead Pines Golf and Swim Club
Invite friends and family to join us. We will be auctioning off sports memorabilia, tickets to local events, baskets filled with awesome items and more. All proceeds will go towards much needed school buses to help transport students to/from field trips, sporting events and other activities we struggle to get our students to.

It's an all school, parent only event. Please join us!
