Dear Voyager Community,
Thank you to our entire community for sharing your input on the student, parent, and staff surveys that were recently sent out from our Reopening Task Force. Please complete the survey sent to you to share your perspective if you have not completed it yet.
The Voyager Leadership team along with the Reopening Task Force will be evaluating the results of all surveys later this week at our team meeting. The Reopening task force includes students, parents, board members, community members, teachers, and administrators. We are working together to evaluate the academic, social, emotional, nutrition, and child care needs for our students as we plan for reopening for 20-21 as well as assessing our readiness for reopening with safety precautions in place to protect our community.
We are striving to find a balanced approach that will meet the needs of all grade levels along with safety measures to mitigate health risks for our school community. After we have evaluated all data, we will make a decision on the reopening plan that we believe best meets the needs of our entire Voyager community. We also recognize that we need to be nimble and prepared for multiple scenarios if the health of our community is impacted further.
I also wanted to clarify that Voyager's reopening plan decision is independent of Durham Public Schools and that we are not required to follow the plan they announced last week. At this time, we are still evaluating the options and our preparedness under each scenario recognizing that we may have a phased in approach or a hybrid model offering a combination of in person and remote instruction.
We recognize the need for families to have information as soon as possible and we appreciate your patience as we work through the process that was developed to get as much stakeholder input as possible. The full task force is meeting again later this week and we will have an opportunity to share an update with the community early next week on the status of our progress. We will continue to keep the school community informed and seek additional input as we move forward with this process. Thank you for your support and patience.
Warmest regards,
Ellie Schollmeyer
