Voyager Academy Elementary School News, May 7, 2021

The following announcements may be helpful for you and your family for the week of May 10-14

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY:  On behalf of the students and staff of Voyager Academy Elementary, we would like to thank every mother and mother figure for your dedication, love, and support.  Happy Mother’s Day.  We hope you enjoy your weekend.

THANK YOU FOR NATIONAL TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK: Thank you to our amazing PTO, students and parents for your support and encouragement during this week designed to honor teachers.  Your kind words, flowers, plants, treats and gift cards were much appreciated.  A special THANK YOU to the PTO for the wonderful breakfast that was provided to the staff on Monday.

EOG UPDATES:  EOG tests will be given in the areas of MATH AND READING on Monday, May 10th and Tuesday, May 11th.

  1. The state requires this test to be given in person to all students.  WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE THE NC EOG virtually.

  2. Testing will be conducted in small group settings so that students will be socially distant throughout the test.  VAES will be utilizing the entire 2nd floor of the school during testing.  The average class will host 8 students.

  3. Students should arrive at school during our normal morning drop off time.  You may begin dropping off students at 7:15 AM.  Students should be in the building by 7:45 AM. Students/families should use our car drop off line.  Students (in person and virtual) will go directly to the second floor and to their assigned classroom.  Virtual students will not have to wait in a group or congregate together.  Students will be in their small groups throughout this process.

  4. Testing will begin at 8:00 AM.

  5. Testing will conclude at NOON.

  6. Students who are normally VIRTUAL students will need to be picked up at noon.  The students may be picked up at the gym entrance.

  7. Students who are normally IN PERSON students may stay at school until  normal dismissal or they may be picked up at noon.  If you are going to pick up your student, please let your child’s teacher know.

  8. This is a state norming year, therefore we will not be receiving math test scores back this school year, but we will receive data scores for reading.  As soon as we have reviewed the reading scores, letters will be sent to families to those students who did not receive a passing score and who will need to complete the READ TO ACHIEVE summer camp.  This camp will take place during the month of June.

  9. How can you help your child?

    1. Please make sure your child gets a solid night of rest.

    2. Please make sure your child eats a nutritious breakfast before coming to school.

    3. Remind your child they are ready for the test and they will do an amazing job!

  10. BECAUSE OF EOG TESTING, OUR 2ND GRADE STUDENTS WILL BE LEARNING FROM HOME ON MONDAY, MAY 10 AND TUESDAY, MAY 11.  Thank you for understanding that we must spread out our students during this important testing window.

What Do I Do If My Student Has Been Exposed To Someone with Covid:  If an K-3 student has been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID, please call the school or email Mr. Manning and we will talk you through the details of how long you may need to quarantine.  Please complete the Greenlight App, because it will automatically give you a date where you will be allowed to return to school.

GREENLIGHT APP:  It is imperative that all Voyager families set up the Greenlight App. Please set up your Greenlight account today and complete the survey daily for each child even while your children are learning remotely.  We will use this data and input to ensure we are ready for reopening safely. The links to set up your account are below.

ACTION NEEDED:  Directions and links to set up your Greenlight Account

Setting up your account is simple.  Select the link below and enter the email address you use to receive Voyager newsletters. Families with multiple children can select any school their children attend.  Once your account is set up you will see all of your children associated with your account and be able to complete the daily health screening for each of them. After you complete your first survey you will see the Greenlight pass cleared indication.  We will have students select that option to show the larger pass during car line for screening along with their temperature check.   Each student will be able to show their Greenlight pass to ensure they are healthy and can attend school.  The app also provides support for families that need access to health care, testing, or additional community resources.  Please select the link below to set up your family account now.
