Voyager Academy Elementary School News, May 14, 2021

The following announcements may be helpful for you and your family for the week of May 17-21

EOG’S ARE COMPLETE:  Thank you to every student, family member, and staff who partnered with us as we completed the 3rd Grade End of Grade Tests.  The students  came into school fresh each day and were ready to give their best. We are so appreciative to our 2nd grade families for being willing to learn remotely on May 10-11 to give us the space we needed to complete the testing. We are so very proud of our students and we know they are ready for the 4th grade!

CONGRATULATIONS TO CALEB RAMSEY:  Caleb is a first grader at Voyager.  He participated in the Durham Soil and Water Conservation Bookmark Contest and WON 2nd place!  We are so very proud of Caleb.  He represents first grade and Voyager well.  Way to go Caleb!

CONGRATULATIONS ANDREW GERISEN:  Andrew is a second grader at Voyager.  He entered the North Carolina Department of Transportation Aviation Art Contest and was a semifinalist.  Andrew is an amazing student and we are honored to celebrate with him.  Keep drawing Andrew!

CONGRATULATIONS VOYAGER STAFF MEMBERS:  This has been an exciting week for Voyager Elementary staff members.  Teachers nominated and voted on the elementary Teacher of the Year; the Elementary Teacher Assistant of the Year and the Elementary Young Educator of the Year.  These selected staff members will participate in upcoming interviews as Voyager Academy (K-12) selects its overall Teacher of the Year and Young Educator of the Year.  Congratulations to our well deserving staff members:

  • Teacher of the Year:  Kerri Owens (2nd Grade)

  • Teacher Assistant of the Year:  Chrissy Wilson (EC)

  • Young Educator of the Year:  Casie Bickers (2nd Grade)

VOYAGER VIKINGS LEGO FRIENDS:   SUMMER IS HERE!!!!!! I thought it would be fun to see what our friends are up to this summer.  We are going to do this by carrying our Lego friend wherever we go.  Take pictures and have your parents upload your photos to Facebook or Instagram.  It can be the pool, a trip, the grocery store, on a plane, Disney, your yard, etc.  Make sure that you include your Lego friend on your summer journey.  Can’t wait to see where our Lego friends go. You can include your family/friends, just you with your Lego friend or just the Lego friend.  If you are not on Facebook please email photos to ewilder@voyageracademy.net.   The Facebook name is Voyager Viking Lego Friends and you can hashtag it as well #voyagervikinglegofriends. Hope you all have a wonderful summer!  GO VIKINGS GO!

SECOND GRADE IS ROCKING LEARNING: Our second graders are now weather experts! We have been working hard to learn all about the 4 types of precipitation, how the water cycle works, learning about different types of extreme weather and finding out more about meteorologists and their jobs. We even got to zoom with Big Weather Don Schwenneker from ABC news. After zooming with Mr. Schwenneker the students got to investigate the weather in Durham and a city of their choice and record themselves as a mini meteorologist! During the writer's workshop the second graders have been working hard to publish their books on tornadoes, hurricanes and thunderstorms.

3rd GRADE READ TO ACHIEVE CAMP:  If your child is in the 3rd grade and qualifies to attend the Summer Read to Achieve Camp, you will receive a letter from the school this coming week.  Camp will be held July 1-June 24 (Monday-Thursday) from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm.  The camp is free for all 3rd graders.

RECYCLING AT VOYAGER:  Thanks to some of our incredible elementary students, Voyager Elementary will be working on a recycling program for the 2021-2022 school year.  Mr. Manning met with students this week and began planning out ways we can partner with our students and families as we help our environment.  Be looking for more news in August.

GREENLIGHT APP:  It is imperative that all Voyager families set up the Greenlight App. Please set up your Greenlight account today and complete the survey daily for each child even while your children are learning remotely.  We will use this data and input to ensure we are ready for reopening safely. The links to set up your account are below.

ACTION NEEDED:  Directions and links to set up your Greenlight Account

Setting up your account is simple.  Select the link below and enter the email address you use to receive Voyager newsletters. Families with multiple children can select any school their children attend.  Once your account is set up you will see all of your children associated with your account and be able to complete the daily health screening for each of them. After you complete your first survey you will see the Greenlight pass cleared indication.  We will have students select that option to show the larger pass during car line for screening along with their temperature check.   Each student will be able to show their Greenlight pass to ensure they are healthy and can attend school.  The app also provides support for families that need access to health care, testing, or additional community resources.  Please select the link below to set up your family account now.
