Voyager Academy Elementary School News, May 21, 2021

The following announcements may be helpful for you and your family for the week of May 24-28.  It is almost SUMMER!

THANK YOU:  To the parents, grandparents, family members and neighbors who have helped to make this year so successful----THANK YOU.  Thank you for partnering with us throughout this unusual year.  Thank you for believing in us and sticking with us.  Thank you for being flexible as we all needed to make remote learning work.  Thank you for welcoming me to Voyager Academy.  I must say, this was a very interesting way to begin a new school but you all have made me feel so welcome and I appreciate each of you.  I will be working throughout the summer (Monday-Thursday).  If I can assist you in any way, please let me know. I and Mrs. Weiland (our new assistant principal) are looking forward to welcoming you back in August.

REPORT CARDS:  Can you believe it?  This crazy year is coming to an end.  The final report cards for all students will be made available to parents on Friday, May 28th.  Thank you for working with us as we have tried to create amazing, independent, life-long learners.

COMPUTERS RETURNED:  Do you have a school owned computer?  All Voyager computers must be returned to the school before report cards can be issued.  You may have your child give them to their teacher or parents and remote students may drop them off at the front office between the hour of 7:00 am and 3:30 pm.

THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL:  Voyager Academy is already preparing for an amazing 2021-2022 school year.  Please mark your calendar now for the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL, which is Thursday, August 5, 2021.  Voyager’s funding is directly tied to the number of students we have in our classroom on the first day of school.  We need every student to be in their classroom on August 5, 2021.  School will begin at 7:45 am with the car line beginning at 7:15 am.  School will conclude at 2:45 pm.

DID YOU SAY READ  AND WRITE THIS SUMMER?  I highly encourage every family to have a plan to keep reading and writing going throughout the summer.  Try to establish a set time where the entire family will stop and read (each day).  Please allow your students to keep a summer journal where they will write and draw about all the great things they did during the summer.  Learning needs to continue during the months of June and July.  Thank you for helping us as we seek to continue the Voyager tradition!

FAVORITE SUMMER T-SHIRT DAY:  As we celebrate the beginning of SUMMER BREAK, we are asking all staff and students to wear their favorite SUMMER T-SHIRT to school on Monday.  Be prepared to tell us why the shirt is your favorite.  Thank you for making sure all t-shirts are appropriate for school.

EXCITING CURRICULUM NEWS:  Voyager Elementary has adopted a new math curriculum and a new language arts curriculum.  Our teachers have already begun training with these new programs and we are thrilled to begin using them in the fall.  Voyager will be using resources from Bridges for math instruction and we will be using resources from Core Knowledge Language Arts for our reading, phonics, writing and language instruction.

REMOTE KINDERGARTEN CELEBRATION:  Our remote kindergarten students participated in a drive through celebration on May 20.  Thank you to Mrs. Casto and the entire kindergarten team for designing this unique way to celebrate.  Our kindergarten students are now ready for 1st grade!  Look for photos of the event on the weekly Sway update.

SENIOR PARADE:  VAES students will be honoring the Voyager High School seniors this Tuesday at 11:30.  We will be creating a parade line for the seniors.  As the seniors walk from the high school to the elementary school and then to the middle school, our students will cheer them on and wish them the best.  Believe it or not, this will be YOUR child participating in the Senior Parade before you know it.

VOYAGER VIKINGS LEGO FRIENDS:   SUMMER IS HERE!!!!!! I thought it would be fun to see what our friends are up to this summer.  We are going to do this by carrying our Lego friend wherever we go.  Take pictures and have your parents upload your photos to Facebook or Instagram.  It can be the pool, a trip, the grocery store, on a plane, Disney, your yard, etc.  Make sure that you include your Lego friend on your summer journey.  Can’t wait to see where our Lego friends go. You can include your family/friends, just you with your Lego friend or just the Lego friend.  If you are not on Facebook please email photos to ewilder@voyageracademy.net.   The Facebook name is Voyager Viking Lego Friends and you can hashtag it as well #voyagervikinglegofriends. Hope you all have a wonderful summer!  GO VIKINGS GO!

END OF THE YEAR CELEBRATIONS:  We made it to the end of the year!  Classes will be celebrating in a safe manner during our last week of school.  Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions about the various grade level celebrations.

1ST GRADE IS ROCKING PROJECT BASED LEARNING:  Update from first grade! We celebrated our 3rd trimester project today- Save our Earth! We invited the 3rd graders from Ms Woods’ class to share what we learned about saving our earth and ocean animals. Then we shared ice pops with them to celebrate finishing the EOGs!

3rd GRADE READ TO ACHIEVE CAMP:  If your child is in the 3rd grade and qualifies to attend the Summer Read to Achieve Camp, you will receive a letter from the school by Monday. Please complete the registration form and return to your child’s teacher.  Camp will be held July 1-June 24 (Monday-Thursday) from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm.  The camp is free for all 3rd graders.

RECYCLING AT VOYAGER:  Thanks to some of our incredible elementary students, Voyager Elementary will be working on a recycling program for the 2021-2022 school year.  Mr. Manning met with students this week and began planning out ways we can partner with our students and families as we help our environment.  Be looking for more news in August.
