From the Voyager Academy Managing Director, Sept. 3, 2021

Dear Voyager Community,

Wow, it is hard to believe that it's September already. The sunshine and cooler weather is a welcome treat for our students and staff to enjoy outdoor lunch and learning. The learning across the buildings is in full swing for students and teachers. Pictured below are the high school zoology students dissecting a squid and a middle school student’s creative sunflower artwork. It was also wonderful to see our first home soccer game on the turf against Franklin Academy.  Our Vikings held strong to end the game in a 0-0 draw.

This week all staff participated in critical suicide awareness training on Monday afternoon.  Read below for additional information from Student Services about Suicide Prevention Week recognized from September 5th – 11th.  Students and staff are being encouraged to wear purple and teal to bring awareness to this important topic.

Thank you to the PTO board and the over 60 parents that attended the meeting on Tuesday evening to discuss opportunities to support our school and build community.  Reach out to the PTO to meet new families and get involved in our school community. Opportunities to work part-time at school and volunteer are also available.  Read below for additional details. The elementary and middle school “Step it Up” fundraiser was also kicked off this week.  Thank you to all the families that are participating in this initiative.  The early results are incredible!!!

Additional good news to share on the COVID cases on campus. Fortunately, our Covid cases have sharply declined from 13 cases last week to only 2 this week. Masking and vaccinations have helped us continue to stay safe and healthy.  Over 95% of Voyager staff are vaccinated and 49% of our eligible students 12 years and older are also vaccinated. Please send in your child’s vaccination card to the school nurse if you have had your child vaccinated since you submitted your enrollment paperwork so that we can accurately track the status on campus.

Feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher, building administrator, or student support if we can assist your family in any way.  Please review the information below for upcoming events and additional resources.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Student Support Team

September 5th - 11th, 2021 is National Suicide Prevention Week. While suicide prevention is important to address year-round, National Suicide Prevention Week provides a dedicated time to come together around a difficult topic. We can all benefit from honest conversations about mental health challenges, concerns, and suicide. Just one conversation can change a life! If you or someone you know needs help, please reach out to those who CAN HELP at either of the numbers below or call 911.

In support of National Suicide Prevention Week, please wear purple and teal throughout week! The high school will share a daily announcement in order to equip high school students with steps regarding learning the signs, knowing how to help, practicing self-care, and reaching out for help. Students in grades 6-12 will receive either an information sticker or card with the National Suicide Prevention Ribbon and Hotline number printed on it.
