From the Voyager Academy Managing Director, Dec. 3, 2021

Dear Voyager Community,

I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving break and time with your family.  We are so grateful that our family was blessed with our first granddaughter to welcome into the world over the holiday weekend. I am so thankful that we could be with them during this magical time. Please meet our new little one, Nora Kay Nash.

The campus was filled with students and staff again this week working hard to finish out the first semester. It’s hard to believe how quickly the year is going.  The high school zoology class is learning about mammalian behavior by creating mouse mazes. The students designed a maze and tested various foods to see which attracts the mouse to complete the maze the quickest. This demonstrates to the students how the sense of smell and sight and intelligence level impact the success of completing the task of running different student created complex mazes.

This is one of the many examples of engaging and interactive lessons happening on campus. A virtual project celebration was also recently launched by the high school and is linked  here.  Our Science Olympiad Teams are also being formed for students that are passionate about science and engineering. Additional information can be found below the newsletter.

Our high school students are also busy preparing for upcoming exams in each of their courses. And middle school and elementary students are continuing to work hard mastering their grade level content and demonstrating their growth on various assessments and project based learning experiences.

The student support team has also planned a Parent Enrichment Night for 12/15/21to discuss healthy living. It’s so important to make sure we take care of ourselves and teach our children to be mindful of the importance of physical and mental well-being. Details about the event are shared below.

The holiday season is a wonderful time to enjoy at school as well. Many classes are exploring traditions and celebrations of holidays around the world.  Our students are also participating in upcoming musical performances to bring holiday cheer.  Giving back to others in need is another great way to celebrate the holiday season. Our student support team has organized a food pantry to support our students who experience food insecurity. Our National Junior Honor Society is also sponsoring a holiday toy drive to support the Durham Rescue Mission. Please review the details below for information on how you can assist those in need.  Be sure to also check out the PTO section for Voyager holiday gifts for your favorite Vikings.

Thank you for your continued support and the trust you have in our team to help your child grow and learn to reach their potential. Feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher, building administrator, or student support if we can assist your family in any way.  Please review the information below for upcoming events and additional resources.

Have a wonderful weekend!
