From the Voyager Academy Managing Director, Dec. 17, 2021

Dear Voyager Community,

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and a healthy and happy new year!! Enjoy the special time with your family and friends relaxing and connecting with one another. Have fun reading and playing board games, eating fun holiday treats, and spending quality time together.  Our family loves baking and cooking together over the holidays. Children remember all the traditions and memories of the special time we share together.  It’s wonderful to see how traditions continue to carry on through the generations to keep our loved ones alive in our hearts too!  I am looking forward to being together with our family and enjoying special time together.

I am also so grateful to my Voyager family.  It’s an honor to partner with such incredible educators and have the privilege of supporting our students and families. Thank you for being such an important part of our school community. I had the joy of attending the elementary chorus and middle school band concert this week and enjoyed the beautiful music and seeing how much they have grown since the start of the school year.  Enjoy watching the show linked below for a special holiday treat.

STUDENT SUPPORT

1. There is still time to join Dr. Link's Social Skills groups for 6-8th graders and 9th-12th graders!! This will be a fun, informative, reflective, and safe way for your student(s) to learn, build, and hone these important skills. WHY are social skills important?!? Great question! Because relationships are an integral part of our daily lives. Starting, developing, maintaining, and repairing meaningful and healthy relationships with others is possibly one of the most important yet underappreciated set of skills that we can develop and utilize over the course of our lives. Such important skills include, but are not limited to, active listening, conflict resolution, effective communication, non-verbal communication, assertiveness, perspective-taking, and reflective apologizing. Further development and/or honing of these skills, widely known as social skills, is most likely one of the best ways to improve our relationships with others.

Beginning in January, Voyager Academy is excited to be able to offer 6th-8th grade and 9-12th grade students an opportunity to participate in a Social Skills group after school! If you are interested in having your child participate, please contact Dr. Monique Link, School Social Worker, to enroll or for more information. The respective flyers are provided below.

2. The Student Support Services Team would like to extend a very big THANK YOU to everyone who has donated and contributed to our Food Pantry! Students are receiving the much needed resources and they are VERY appreciative! "THANK YOU!"

If anyone would still like to donate grocery store gift cards and/or non-perishable food items, Dr. Link is continuing to accept donations throughout the school year, in an effort to sustain the Food Pantry for our students. Please feel free to contact Dr. Link at 919-433-3301 X 146 or mlink@voyageracademy.net for questions or more information. Contributions of all sizes are greatly appreciated and continue to be needed!
