From the Voyager Academy Managing Director, Dec. 10, 2021

Dear Voyager Community,

It’s been another action packed week on campus as our students and staff continue to work hard finishing out the end of the year strong. Exams have started at the high school and will continue all next week. Our students are also brightening spirits within the school with their creative talents. The HS band had a fabulous outdoor concert, and our Viking Troupers did an amazing job with their performance of 101 Dalmatians. Tonight is the last night if you want to see their adorable rendition of 101 Dalmatians.

Thank you to all the families that made donations to the National Junior Honor Society and elementary toy drives. We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our school community and your willingness to help others. The Middle School Student Council has also held snack sales to raise funds that will be used to purchase food store gift cards for families in need within our school community. We’re so very proud of our students for their spirit and generosity as well.  We would also like to thank our families for the delicious monthly staff luncheons/breakfasts that make our team feel special. Our staff greatly appreciates all the treats and fine home cooking.

Now more than ever we need to be reminded of the importance of balance and healthy living even during this hectic time of year. The student support team has planned a Parent Enrichment Night for 12/15/21 to support our families and discuss healthy living. It’s so important to make sure we take care of ourselves and teach our children to be mindful of the importance of physical and mental well-being. Dr. Link, our School Social Worker, will be forming after school social groups to support our students. Details about the programs are shared below.

Please remember that school will dismiss early on Friday, December 17, 2021 (ES- 11:15, MS- 11:45, HS- 12:15).  School lunch and aftercare are not offered on Friday, December 17, 2021. The linked  22-23 and 23-24 calendars were approved by the Board and will also be posted on the school website for future reference.

Thank you for your continued support and the trust you have in our team to help your child grow and learn to reach their potential. Feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher, building administrator, or student support if we can assist your family in any way.  Please review the information below for upcoming events and additional resources.

Have a wonderful weekend!

COVID-19 VACCINATION STATUS SURVEY

A HUGE THANK YOU to all the families that have already completed the vaccination survey that went out on Monday!

As of November 2, 2021, all individuals age 5 and above are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. On Monday, December 6th, a survey was sent to all Voyager families asking that parents complete this survey so that we have accurate and up-to-date data about the COVID-19 vaccination status of our student population. This information helps our school make informed decisions on COVID protocols and also assists our school nurse and administrators with contact tracing and quarantine guidance for families when we have COVID positive cases.

If you haven’t already done so, please consider completing this survey.

Link to survey:  https://forms.gle/sDphcf5RyfE6Gc918

If you have more than (1) child that attends Voyager Academy, PLEASE COMPLETE A SURVEY FOR EACH CHILD.

We are asking families to please complete this survey by Thursday, December 16th, 2021. If you have already completed the survey, you do NOT need to complete it again.

All personal information from this survey is kept confidential.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Skoff (School Nurse) at cskoff@voyageracademy.net

STUDENT SUPPORT

Relationships are an integral part of our daily lives. Starting, developing, maintaining, and repairing meaningful and healthy relationships with others is possibly one of the most important yet underappreciated set of skills that we can develop and utilize over the course of our lives. Such important skills include, but are not limited to, active listening, conflict resolution, effective communication, non-verbal communication, assertiveness, perspective-taking, and reflective apologizing. Further development and/or honing of these skills, widely known as social skills, is most likely one of the best ways to improve our relationships with others.

Beginning in January, Voyager Academy is excited to be able to offer 6th-8th grade and 9-12th grade students an opportunity to participate in a Social Skills group after school! If you are interested in having your child participate, please contact Dr. Monique Link, School Social Worker, to enroll or for more information. The respective flyers are provided below.

The Student Support Services Team would like to extend a very big THANK YOU to everyone who has donated and contributed to our Food Pantry! Starting next week, we will be able to begin providing the much needed resources to our identified students! "THANK YOU!"

If anyone would still like to donate grocery store gift cards and/or non-perishable food items, Dr. Link is continuing to accept donations throughout the school year, in an effort to sustain the Food Pantry for our students. Please feel free to contact Dr. Link at 919-433-3301 X 146 or mlink@voyageracademy.net for questions or more information. Contributions of all sizes are greatly appreciated!

Please join the Student Support Services Team for the last Parent Enrichment Night of 2021, to be held on December 15th from 6:30-7:30p. The topic is Healthy Living. We hope to see you there!
