Voyager Academy Elementary School News, May 6, 2022

NEWS FROM ELEMENTARY:  We hope that you and your family have had a wonderful week of learning. We are winding down this incredible school year.  The last month of school will be extremely busy for all of us.  I hope this weekly update will help you as you organize your time. The following announcements will be helpful for you and your family for the week of May 9-13


THANK YOU REVOLVE CHURCH:  Thank you to Revolve Church for honoring the elementary staff this week with an amazing breakfast and beautiful flowers.  We appreciate your support and your partnership.  You made our day!


MARK YOUR CALENDAR NOW:  The last day of school for Voyager Academy is Wednesday, May 25.  The elementary school dismisses at 11:15 am.  There is NO AFTERCARE PROVIDED ON THIS DATE!  


EOG TESTING:  On May 12th and May 13th, Voyager Academy 3rd grade students will be taking the North Carolina End-of-Grade Tests in Math and Reading.  The North Carolina End-of-Grade Tests are designed to measure student performance on the goals, objectives, and grade-level competencies specified in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. We are excited to see the growth our students have made during the 2021-2022 school year.


Students will need to arrive on time each day.  Testing will begin promptly by 8:15 am.  Please help us prepare your child for success by ensuring:

  • Students arrive to school on time

  • Students have had a good night's rest the night before the test

  • Students have eaten a nutritious breakfast on May 12 and May 13

  • Students bring a snack and a water bottle to school on May 12 and May 13

  • Encourage your student to do their very best and celebrate all they have learned


Testing will conclude each day around 12:00.  Students do not have to remain at school until 2:45 pm. Students may be picked up from Voyager Academy at noon on May 12th and May 13th. 


TALENT SHOW:  The K-5 Talent Show was incredible!  We had 35 acts of students displaying their amazing talents. We had singing, dancing, gymnastics, piano playing, fiddle and violin playing, magic and jokes.  A BIG thank you to Mrs. Sawyer, Mrs. Marie Flowe-Dawson, Mrs. Heather Roberts, Mrs. Emily Wilder, Mrs. Chrissy Wilson and Mrs. Laaura Borcik for giving our students this opportunity.  You do not want to miss this event next year!


FIELD DAY HOORAY:  Finally! We are planning our VAES Field Day for May 10, 2022. This is our first Field Day in four years! Our Field Day will be in the following sessions: Kindergarteners 9:00-10:00 am; First Graders 10:30-11:30 am; and 2nd & 3rd Graders 12:00-2:00 pm.  As always we will need your help to run our activity stations. FIELD TRIPS ARE COMING:  Kindergarten students will be traveling to The Museum of Life and Science on May 13. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.  


FAIRY TALE BALL:  The first grade students have been learning all about Fairy Tales during their CKLA time.  This grade is planning to highlight the unit study by hosting a Fairy Tale Ball for all first grade students on May 20 at 1:15 pm.  This will be a highlight for your students.   


REPORT CARDS:  Report cards will be sent home with each student on Wednesday, May 25, 2022. 


THIRD GRADERS TOUR MIDDLE SCHOOL:  Our current 3rd graders are so excited about moving into the middle school building for 4th grade.  The students will be touring the school, meeting the teachers and talking with current 4th graders on Monday, May 23, 2022.


MULTIPLICATION DRILL:  Mr. Manning and Mrs. Weiland will be challenging all 3rd grade students to the second round of our Multiplication Battle on May 23.  Encourage your students to practice, practice, practice.  Who will be the King of Multiplication?  


PROJECT CELEBRATIONS ARE COMING:  As an amazing year of learning winds down, our classes will be hosting their last Project Celebrations.  The students have done a tremendous job of taking a driving question and completing research to answer the question and share their knowledge.  

Kindergarten Project Celebration:  May 24 at 11:00

First Grade Project Celebration:  May 18 at 9:00 and 1:00

Second Grade Project Celebration:  May 20 at 1:00

Third Grade Project Celebration:  May 19 at 1:30


NATIONAL SCHOOL NURSE DAY:  We will be celebrating National School Nurse Day on May 11.  We are so thankful for Mrs. Chelsea Skoff.  I encourage you to take a moment to send her an email or drop off a card to say thank you for helping us keep everyone safe and well this year.  Her email is cskoff@voyageracademy.net



BLOOD DRIVE:  Voyager High School will be hosting a Blood Drive on 5/13/2022 from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm.  Come out and support this community project.

FIELD TRIPS AND SCHOOL PAYMENTS IN TITAN SCHOOL STORE:

The Family Portal is where families pay your school fees, manage your students accounts, apply lunch funds and apply for free and reduced meals. When making purchases, you will need to visit the "Store," which is on the left hand side of the Home screen. The one time payment and recurring payment features are where you apply funds for lunch orders. Select the Categories button to filter through the list of items available in the store. Then select the item you are wanting to purchase for your student. 

 

If you have trouble logging into your account or have questions, call or email the Titan Support team. Support is available from 7 AM to 7 PM Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, to answer your family portal questions at (844) 467 4700, option 2. Refunds are issued at the school level. 


MARK YOUR CALENDAR NOW:  The end of the year will be here before you know it.  Listed below are some important testing dates for your family:

  • K-3 mClass End of the Year Reading Assessments begin April 19 and conclude by May 10

  • 3rd Grade Reading EOG will take place on May 12

  • 3rd Grade Math EOG will take place on May 13

  • Kindergarten Field Trip May 13

  • K-3 End of the Year Math Assessments will take place in early May.

  • Field Day for K-3:  May 10

  • First Grade Project Celebration:  May 18

  • First Grade Fairy Tale Ball:  May 20

VOYAGER SUMMER CAMP:  

Summer Camp 2022 Webpage

Voyager Academy is offering 4 fabulous weeks of summer camp for Rising 1st – 8th graders. Camp begins Monday, June 6, 2022 and will end Thursday, June 30, 2022. Camp hours are Monday - Thursday from 8:00am - 4:30 pm. Each week has its own theme incorporated into crafts, activities, and games. Campers will also go on weekly field trips, swim (pending pool availability due to COVID) or water play and participate in STEM activities. 

We are also offering "Specialty Camps" in Basketball, LEGO Robotics and Ukulele/Guitar.. The camp dates and details for these special sessions can be found on the camp webpage. Registration  for Summer Camp is live on the Titan Family portal. You can quickly view all camp sessions by changing the "Category" in the school store to "Summer Camp." Complete the Summer Camp Registration Form for each child at the attached link. The $30 registration fee will be applied to your account after registration is complete. Registration is not complete until camp registration from, registration fee and session payment is made in Titan or by Check/Money Order. Space is limited and on a first come first served basis. There will be no waitlist for summer camp registration.  The last day to register is April 30th, if space is still available.

FIELD TRIP PAYMENTS AT VOYAGER:  Field Trip Payments will now be made through the Titan Family portal at Family.Titank12.com. It is the same system we are using to deposit funds for lunch. If you have not set up an account yet, I've included the instructions (Spanish & English) to this email. I also created a short video tutorial of the process. Each family will need to set up an account in order to pay for field trip and classroom fees.

You will need to create an account on the portal first to begin making payments. Once in the Titan family dashboard

  1. Link your student(s) to your family account. All Voyager students are in the Titan system.

  2. Add a payment method here under profile or in your cart before checking out.

  3. Use the menu on the left to select "Store." This is the future home of all fees payments at Voyager Academy.

  4. Select the item you aRe purchasing (field trip, etc)

  5. Select your student(s) name from the drop down list.

  6. Select the plan selection.

  7. Select your students' grade level.

  8. Select the month of service.

  9. Press the add to cart button.

  10. A pop up button will appear with the option to continue shopping or view the cart. If you have a sibling to register or need an additional plan, click continue shopping. Otherwise, continue to the cart for payment.

  11. Review your cart before completing your purchase. To delete an item. Click the 3 dots to the right of the item.

  12. The system should email you a receipt. You can also view your transaction history from the dashboard menu under "History."

  13. Please do not set up recurring payments within the portal for field trip fees.
