Voyager Academy Elementary School News, Feb. 17, 2023

NEWS FROM ELEMENTARY:  Happy end of February.  We hope you and your family enjoy our short week last week. The following announcements will be helpful for you and your family for the week of February 20-24.

SPIRIT NIGHT AT PANERA BREAD: Come out and support YOUR school on February 23.  Let’s meet for dinner at Panera Bread and support the PTSO!

REMOTE LEARNING DAY:  Voyager will be hosting a remote learning day on Monday, Feb. 20.  Teachers will be sending home review activities for students to complete on this date.  Your student should be able to complete most of the activities independently. The students will not be logging in to meet with their teacher during this day.

BOARD MEMBER OPPORTUNITY:  Are you interested in serving on the Voyager Board of Directors? Applications are being accepted now through February 26th. The Board oversees the strategic direction of Voyager and supports the school in achieving our mission and vision. Presentations from the information session held earlier this year are linked here.  Details about the application process are linked here.  Feel free to share with people you know outside of the Voyager community who may also be interested in serving on our board. Children and grandchildren of board members receive priority in the lottery.

THANK YOU:  To all of our Voyager parents–THANK YOU– for making us feel so special this past week.  The flowers, cards, candy and food were wonderful.  Thank you for recognizing how hard the teachers work to give your children the very best learning experience possible.

SUPER BOWL FRIDAY WAS SO MUCH FUN:  The students have completed Super Bowl Work Stations to celebrate the big game.  Students completed math, reading and language activities.  Each class also predicted the Super Bowl winner.  The K-3 students felt the EAGLES would win the game.  Our prediction was not correct.

STEM DAY IS COMING TO VOYAGER:  The week of March 20th, students will be participating in STEM activities all week long.   Science is important to us.  It would be wonderful if each class could raise $25 for the culminating event on Friday for STEM DAY STATIONS (This would be about $1 per student). This money will help provide materials for staff to utilize throughout the week.  Please send in cash to Ms Oakely in the front office labeled STEM if you would like to help fund this project. This is totally optional but if you are able to help, we would appreciate it.  We have some great plans prepared for this amazing Science Extravaganza Week!

SNACK WITH THE PRINCIPAL:  Mr. Manning and Mrs. Weiland will be hosting a snack session with students from each grade level on February 22.  Each grade level will send a few students to have a snack with the principals.  They will talk with the students about what they love about their school and talk about ideas the students have to improve their school.  Stay tuned for a list of their suggestions.

KIDS HEART CHALLENGE:   Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of the families who have helped to support the American Heart Association through our Kids Heart Challenge. We had a great week in Physical Education as we enjoyed a variety of physical activities, learned about our pulse, and reviewed ways to take care of our healthy bodies.
As our Kids Heart Challenge draws to an end, we want to let you know that we will be closing the event by Friday February 17, 2023. Please make sure all of your online donations are made by that date. Also, if you have collected money in a donation envelope, please send that back to school by Wednesday of next week - February 15, 2023.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH:  Our celebration of Black History Month is going well.  Thank you to all of you who volunteered to participate in our Read- In on February 01.  We are hosting special learning events all month long and will end with our students watching a live theater production of George Washington Carver and Friends. The Brite Star Theater Group will be at Voyager on February 23.

HAPPY HEART MONTH:  JUMP FOR FITNESS:  Challenge your family to a heart-healthy activity each day for 25 of the 28 days in February!  Click the link below to download and/or print the Jump for Fitness calendar. If you do not have a jump rope, pretend by using an imaginary jump rope. Happy Heart Month!
