      Student BATHROOMS

Please take a moment to talk with your Vikings about  the    bathrooms. This past week we've had some inappropriate writings on the bathroom wall in the boys’ bathroom and the girls’ bathroom.  I need this to stop and need you to help by reminding students this is not ok!  I also need some of our boys to stop drawing on the bathroom wall as the drawings are also inappropriate.  I’m counting on you to help by talking with your children/students.  Thanks!

Congratulations to Jay Huff!  Just in case you do not know Jay Huff, Jay is a former Voyager student, and he was an outstanding student and basketball player.  Jay’s dad is a teacher/coach at the high school and shared that Jay just signed with the Wizards to play pro ball.  Congratulations, Jay, we will be watching TV so we can watch you play!!!!

Our Middle School Boys’ Basketball team plays in a tournament Friday night.  They play at 5:00 in the high school gym and if they win they play at 7:30.  Let’s cheer on the team!!!!

THANK YOU to all of you who donated foods during our Food Drive sponsored by our National Junior Honor Society.  It’s great to have some wonderful parents who support our students.

Middle School Upcoming Sports

Our baseball team begins play in the near future and their home games will be played at Butner Athletic Field.  Our softball team begins play in the near future also and their home games will be played at Bull City Little League.  Hopefully you all will be able to watch a game or two.

Our Rising 9th graders had the opportunity to hear several high school students talk about the high school. After the students shared info with the students, our 8th graders walked over to the high school and toured the high school building.  They had questions and seemed to enjoy the visit.

Our 7th graders enjoyed their trip to the Museum on Feb. 28.

Spelling Bee - Be on the lookout for information from Mrs. Wright.

UPDATE FROM SCHOOL NURSE:  Our CDC COVID-19 Community Level is: Low

  • **Masks are continued to be worn indoors and that is great and symptoms of illness, COVID-19 testing is highly recommended

  • People with a positive test for COVID-19 MUST wear a mask for 10 days.

  • People with symptoms or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask.

Culture and Climate Survey- Don’t forget to complete your survey!

The culture and climate team members are working together to finalize the surveys and roster files for students, families, and staff. We anticipate sending out surveys by the end of the month and look forward to getting your feedback. It was great to partner with a group of students to get their input on the survey design and for their assistance in creating a video that will be shared in the near future. Thank you to Cayson Clayton, Amaris Iwari, Ryann Cochran, Umar Chaudhry, Jude McDonald, Taylor Cuthriell, Ena Scott-Benson, Thaddeus Robinson, Maura Carden, and Maximus Oliva-Juarez. We appreciate their insights and talents.

BOARD MEMBER OPPORTUNITY:  Are you interested in serving on the Voyager Board of Directors? Applications are being accepted now through February 26th. The Board oversees the strategic direction of Voyager and supports the school in achieving our mission and vision. Presentations from the information session held earlier this year are linked here.  Details about the application process are linked here.  Feel free to share with people you know outside of the Voyager community who may also be interested in serving on our board. Children and grandchildren of board members receive priority in the lottery.

2023 -2024  Student Application Process

The lottery is scheduled for March 3.

Students that are already enrolled at Voyager did not need to reapply but you will receive directions regarding what you need to do.

Information, resources, and the timeline for the application and lottery process are under the admissions tab on the website.  Voyager continues to strive to reach a diverse demographic that reflects our community. Please reach out to your friends and neighbors and share information about our wonderful school community.  The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee will be recruiting at area preschools and community centers. Voyager also partners with Communities and Families Rising (formerly Head Start) and has already shared our school brochures and participates in their open house events.

      Black History Month

Our students did a great job with the trivial questions and a great job with the Black History Program!!!!!!!

We have been excited that our Student Council has been providing Black History Trivia questions!  Our Student Council has been fantastic with the trivia questions.  We have also had lots of students submitting an answer to the trivial question.   We have all learned lots. We also have students who have created a Black History Program to share with other students as it is a celebration and will spotlight songs, dance, and poetry.

Just another reminder!!!!!

PARKING SPACES

Please do not park in one of the numbered parking spaces.  All of the spaces that are numbered are for the staff.  The spaces at the MS are in front of the MS, in front of the soccer field, in front of the Hock House and around the edge of the pond.  The space may be empty when you arrive but remember the spaces are for the staff even if they have not arrived before you have arrived.  Thanks so much for not parking in the numbered spaces. !

Attendance Info

Help,  the attendance committee met today and we will be contacting some of you regarding students not being in school and/or getting to school late.  When your child is sick, please email us so we will know why your student is absent or send a doctor’s note. Several of you received an email or a call regarding your child’s lateness and/or absences. We recognize that many of our students have been sick and we understand why they are not at school.  It is helpful if you send a note regarding attendance or send a doctor’s note if possible.  If we do not hear from you we usually mark it unexcused.

CAR LINE REMINDER:  I want to remind everyone that it is very important to strive to follow all car line procedures so that we keep everyone safe.  If we all would just follow procedures, the carline would run even smoother and more quickly.  Recently, we have had an issue with cars not waiting in the car line and trying to get back in the line at the road between the elementary school and the high school.  We have now placed our SRO at this location to help remind everyone of the importance of staying in line and waiting their turn.  We also have parents who are being rude to each other in hopes to move one position.  PLEASE be kind to each other!!!!!

We  need our 6th, 7th and 8th graders to bring their laptop daily to school charged and ready.

MONDAY’S SCHEDULE:  Each and every Monday, Voyager will dismiss students at 1:15 pm.  Since our staff attend meetings every Monday, it is imperative that students are picked up on time.

We are so excited to have Mr. Sweed Dalton back at the Middle School. Mr. Dalton is working with our 8th graders who need some extra support in Math.  Mr. Dalton will certainly have the students working and learning.

The Titan Family Portal and LINQ Online Ordering system work together like a checking/ debit card account.  All student lunch accounts must be preloaded with funds for ordering.  Parents then order lunches for students based on the funds availability in their Titan account. Families who have a negative balance on the account will no longer be permitted to order lunch online. Please be sure to send your student(s) to school with lunch if no meal was ordered. If your student's lunch account currently has a negative balance, we please ask that you pay this balance as soon as possible by either form of payment:

Online at  https://family.titank12.com  There is a $2.80 flat fee charged by the bank per deposit online. (Example: $100 deposit + $2.80 fee = $102.80)

A check/ money order made payable to Voyager Academy. Please include your child's name and id# on the memo line. You can also use this pre-printed form.
