NEWS FROM ELEMENTARY: Can you believe this is the last week of school? The following announcements will be helpful for you and your family for the week of May 22-24
LAST DAY OF SCHOOL: May 24th is our last day of school. Students will be dismissed at 11:15 on this date. There will be NO aftercare offered on this date. ALL students must be picked up at 11:15 am.
REPORT CARDS: The final K-3 report card will be sent home with each student on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.
EOG SCORES: The 3rd graders have completed their first year of state assessments. Our third graders made tremendous growth during this year and we are so proud of them. The third grade reading score increased 38% from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. This is amazing! We are so proud of the teachers, students and parents. Our 3rd grade EOG scores in math and reading are the highest scores we have had in 5 years! Thank you parents for partnering with us as we seek to create independent life-long learners.
MULTIPLICATION BATTLE: Mr. Manning and Mrs. Weiland will be battling the 3rd graders in an end of the year multiplication challenge on May 22. Wish them your best!
DURHAM BULLS: Thank you to all the 3rd grade families who came out to enjoy a night with the Durham Bulls. It was a wonderful way for our 3rd grade families to finish out the school year.

TALENT SHOW: VAES will be hosting an in-school talent show on May 23. This will take place during the student’s elective period. If you would like for your child to share a talent with their classmates, please click on the link below. Mrs. Sawyer can only accept 10 talent acts per grade level.

SPECIAL SHIRT NEEDED: The elective teachers are planning something extra special for all students. In order for the surprise to be as effective as possible, we are requesting that all students wear a white or neon shirt to school on Monday, May 22. If you cannot do this we understand, but it would be very helpful if possible. Remember–this is a surprise for our students!

WOW! WHAT A WEEK: This has been such a busy week at Voyager. Mrs. Curry’s class visited a local farm and learned all about strawberries. Kindergarten visited the Marbles Museum and first grade visited the Carolina Theater. Second grade hosted a project celebration teaching first graders all about insects and our third graders taught parents about how to be a changemaker.
THANK YOU VOYAGER FAMILIES: Thank you to every Voyager family member who has provided food, teacher coverage, encouragement and support during this year. You guys have truly been amazing and we are blessed to partner with you.
MRS. FLOWE-DAWSON IS RETIRING: Voyager families, Mrs. Marie Flowe-Dawson will be officially retiring at the end of this school year. She is an incredible PE teacher and your students LOVE her. I wanted to give you all an opportunity to reach out to Mrs. Dawson to thank her for her many years of service. She has indeed helped our students learn that it is important and fun to be physically active!
READ TO ACHIEVE CAMP: Read to Achieve Camp is available to qualifying 3rd grade students this summer. If your child needs to attend this camp, parents will receive a letter from the school. The dates and times for Read to Achieve Camp are: June 5-22 from 9:00 to 1:30 (Monday -Thursday).

CHICK-FIL-A READING CHALLENGE: We are so honored to partner with Chick-Fil-A on Roxboro St. They will be giving a FREE gift card to students every month who read 15 books. The May challenge has begun. As your child reads or you read to your child, please record the books on the reading log and return it to your child’s teacher once you have 15 books listed. Your child can earn one free gift card per month.

People may choose to wear a mask for any reason at any time.
People with a positive test for COVID-19 MUST wear a mask for 10 days.
People with symptoms or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask and get tested.
