Vikings Celebrate Spirit Week
Hello Viking family. Last week’s Spirit Week was great!
On Monday, Oct. 27th, Spirit Week began for the Vikings with Everything but Backpack day on Monday. Everything But a Backpack Day was followed by Summer vs. Winter on Tuesday, Twin Day on Wednesday, BBQ Dad vs. Soccer Moms on Thursday, and Costume Day on Friday.
Throughout the week, students showed up with their insane props, creative costumes, and wonderfully picked outfits. Some outfits that stood out were Junior Class President and Vice President, Eliya Gbedee & Kya Davis in their “BBQ Dad” outfits. These students showed up ready to throw some food on the grill. Speaking of food, another group of our spirited Vikings, Deon Bullock, Levi Cromah, and Joel Brewer, dressed as a pair of breakfast foods (egg and bacon) on Costume Day. Costume Day was the same day as our pep rally and Halloween. The student council led the event in numerous games, recognition of Fall sports athletes, a pie-in-the-face project fundraiser (shout out to Mr. Tardieu!), and a special dance performance from our very own dance team, “The Blades.” The pep rally left students hyped up for lots of trick or treating and the upcoming homecoming dance on Saturday, Nov. 1st. The “Arabian Nights” theme was very magical as Vikings and guests showed up in their flashy outfits ready to dance to a special mix, DJ’d by junior, Soliel Farr. Students had lots of fun as they did line dances, took pictures, and had our very own Ms. Nguyen's juicy beverage concoctions. Thank you to Soleil Farr, Ms. Patterson, Mrs. Dodson, Ms. Price, the student council, and all Vikings who participated in our Spirit Week and Homecoming dance.
And a special thanks goes to Ms. Higdon who, as the Student Council sponsor, was the chief organizer of Spirit Week.

Ms. Marcum’s Class Goes On 2 Field Trips
Students from Mrs. Marcum's class in E136 took two exciting field trips first to visit the Project SEARCH interns at Embassy Suites, where students saw real job sites in action and learned about future work opportunities. Then we spent a beautiful day at Spring Haven Farm, meeting friendly animals, enjoying the fall weather, and practicing communication and social skills in a fun, hands-on way. Both trips gave our students the chance to connect classroom learning to the world around them and to make some wonderful memories together!

Let’s Fill the Food Pantry
Vikings--my name is Aidan Daly, I am a senior at Voyager, and am a member of our Service Club here in the high school. I am organizing a food drive that will run from Monday, November 10th, through Friday, November 21st. There will be a collection box in the elementary, middle, and high schools. All of the donations will go to the Voyager Food Pantry, PORCH Durham, and Parktown Food Hub, all organizations that work to fight hunger in the Durham community. All donations of non-perishable food items are greatly appreciated!

North Carolina Governor's School VAHS Applications Due Dec. 12, 2025
The North Carolina Governor's School is a 4-week summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses. The curriculum focuses on the exploration of the most recent ideas and concepts in each discipline, and does not involve credit, tests, or grades. Current Juniors that meet the eligibility guidelines are encouraged to apply!

NC College Connect
Congratulations to the VAHS seniors who have earned eligibility for the NC College Connect program. https://www.cfnc.org/nc-college-connect/. NC College Connect is a program that provides a simpler and faster way for students with a weighted 2.8 or higher to get admitted to college in North Carolina. Eligible seniors should have received a letter from the College Foundation of NC (CFNC) with a list of colleges and universities that they have been offered admission through the program. Information about next steps is included in the letter and at the website listed above. The Attached PowerPoint is also a great resource.
