Voyager Academy Middle School News, Nov. 19, 2017

Dear VAMS Families,

Wow, if you were not at the NC School of Math and Science on Thursday night, you missed a terrific performance.  The middle school and high school music departments provided an evening of entertainment and it awesome.  Both schools have incredibly talented students.  I was certainly proud of the middle school students as well as the high school students.

STUDENT COUNCIL

Our Student Council continues to provide services to others.  On Friday afternoon, the Student Council and the PTO coordinated a dance/social for our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students.  The money raised will go towards a worthy charity.  I am proud of how our students want to support others.  Once the students started dancing, they really had a great time.  A huge thank you to Mr. E for serving as Student Council sponsor.

PROGRESS REPORTS

Progress reports were sent home on Thursday with 4th and 5th graders and all second quarter grades for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders should be in PowerSchool so parents can review.  Some of our students are completing their assignments but not giving the assignments to the teachers.  It’s important that teachers receive the papers, projects, etc. so the students receive credit for their work.

PTO LUNCHEON

The staff enjoyed the November luncheon provided by many parents.  The different soups were delicious.  The salads and fruits were so very tasty and the desserts were fantastic.  Thanks to all of you who helped with the lunch whether it was setting up, serving, bringing food, covering classes or cleaning up.  We appreciate each of you!

BENCHMARKS

Our first benchmark administration is scheduled for the week of December 5.  Our benchmarks are used to determine how well our students are doing in reading and math.  The results are used to determine what skills need additional attention and the skills that only need review throughout the year.  Once we administer and receive the reports, we will send home the student reports.  It’s important for students to be on time and do their very best as we take our benchmark testing seriously.
