Congratulations to Meghan Taylor of VAHS. She has been selected as Outstanding Young Educator of the Year at Voyager Academy. Voyager Academy is extremely lucky to have someone as dedicated to her students and to the community, as Ms. Taylor. She does everything she can to ensure that ALL of her students succeed. And congratulations to the OYE’s of VAMS and VAES as well!

HIGH SCHOOL CHORUS AUDITIONS FOR 2018-19
High School chorus auditions for the 2018-19 school year will take place on Monday, May 7th, 2-5pm for placement in either Bull City Lights or Vocal Affinity! See attached flyer for all the details.

Tuesday, May 8th, 4-5:30pm
Due to Honor Society rehearsal & ceremony at the middle school on Monday...this alternate date has been added as an option for rising 9th graders & only for extenuating circumstances for rising 10th-12th graders...please email Mrs. Hobgood if you have a conflict with Monday & need to attend the alternate day.

AP LANGUAGE REVIEW SESSIONS!
The time has come to begin reviewing for the AP Exam being held in mid May. If you were enrolled in Ms. Barber's AP Language and Composition class in the Fall you are invited to join her after school for the following sessions. Attend whatever session would be serve your needs for the length of time you need! If you cannot make a meeting, but want assistance, reach out to Ms. Barber at mbarber@voyageracademy.net.

VIKING NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY NEWS
NHS held its induction ceremony on Friday April 27th, 2018 in the VAHS gym. Thank you to all the parents and families that came out to help share in this event. We welcomed in thirty-six new members, many from the first ever 10th grade induction class. We also invited our thirty-nine current members to reaffirm their commitment to the NHS. A small reception was held afterwards in the commons where the new members were able to speak with current members and share ideas for new service projects. I would like to send out a special thank you to the NHS officers, Katerina Lamm, Layne Christensen, Devan Desai, and Lama Khachab for all their hard work this year. Also special thanks go out to John Paynter (NHS Senior) for leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Abdallah Abumuais (NHS Senior) for presenting in the vice president's absence. It is going to be an exciting time for NHS here at Voyager be sure to watch the website for details.
NHS is excited to announce the launch of our new website! You can access the website from the VAHS homepage or simply click here and bookmark it for future viewing. We are excited to be working with the VAES again to bring back the “Buddy Program” in which the students can work in the classrooms with students and teachers and build lasting relationships. We are getting ready to work with the Ronald McDonald house here in Durham to serve meals to families in April or May. We recently worked with the Woodward family to coordinate the sending of much needed supplies to those affected by the hurricane in Puerto Rico and we would like to thank everyone who donated.

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT STUDENT HEALTH
As you may or may not be aware, “vaping” and/or "juuling"(the use of E-cigarettes) has become an unhealthy trend among children and young adults, from middle through high school nationwide. As the safety and health of our students is a top priority at VAHS, all students received a presentation on Feb. 13th about the effects of this unhealthy activity, as well as the Voyager Academy consequences.
