Voyager Academy Middle School News, May 20, 2018

Dear VAMS Families,

What a busy week!  We had our Awards Celebration on Monday night followed by our Reading EOG on Wednesday and Math EOG on Thursday.  We only had 3 make-up tests due to student absences. That’s fantastic! We also had all students in the building on time and ready to begin the EOG process. It really made a difference.

Yearbooks
We have 15 yearbooks left!  We will sell these on a first come, first serve basis.  If you want to purchase a book for your child, please send cash or check. The cost is $35.00.

8th Grade Celebration
Parents, we will celebrate our 8th graders Friday morning at 8:45.  We will be in the middle school gym.  Please come join us and hear our students share their thoughts about their journey at Voyager, hear some of our students sing, and hear from Mr. Smith.  Once we complete our celebration, our 8th graders may begin their summer!

EOG Testing Continues
On Tuesday, May 22, students in grades 5 and 8 will take their science EOG and students in grades 6 and 7 will take a science Final Exam.  Finally on Wednesday, May 23, students in grades 5 – 8 will take their social studies Final Exam.

Students need to be on time as we will start promptly at 8:30 and all students need to be in their class at 8:15.  Once the teacher begins reading directions students may not enter late nor leave early. Thanks for making sure students were on time!

EOG Testing and Proctors!!!!
I can’t say THANK YOU enough to those of you who proctored on Wednesday or Thursday or both Wednesday and Thursday.  It is truly an experience that everyone should have. According to our list, we will see many of you on Tuesday! THANKS!

6th Grade Project Celebration
It was great fun to see how excited our sixth grades were today as they presented  their projects.  A parent shared, “I walked away with new content knowledge and a lot of new technology knowledge.  Quizzes via my phone, text message poles, creating websites... it was all very impressive!”

C.O.L.E.
We had 2 COLE teams participate in competition on Saturday.  COLE is the charter school version of Battle of the Books. Our 4th and 5th graders practiced for several months.  They first had to read several books and become the expert on some of the books.  Once the students completed reading the books, they began practicing for the competition by answering questions about the books.  We are so very proud of our students as both teams were very successful in their first competition.

Student Council Presents Its First Scholarship to a VAHS student
This year’s Student Council focused on service.  One of the projects the Student Council added this year is the presentation of a $500 Scholarship to one of our high school seniors.  Students applying for the scholarship completed an application. With the leadership of Mr. Eisenson, the students selected their first scholarship winner.   Our Students Council officers surprised Chloe Dixon by going to the high school to present her with a scholarship! Congratulations, Chloe Dixon!
