Dear VAMS Families,
It has been another great week at Voyager Middle School. This week I learned about protons, neutrons, and electrons as I observed models of atoms being created. If you have an 8th grader, please quiz them on their science learning. I also learned about a command and mixed economy. While visiting Mr. Ellis’ class, it was obvious that the students understood the concepts. If you have a student in Ms. Vurnakes room, please have them sing Text Structures Baby to you! It’s amazing to see the fantastic lessons and activities created by our teachers.
7th Grade Immunization
Students entering 7th grade are required to have one dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccine and one dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine for individuals who have not already received those vaccines.
You have 30 calendar days from the first day of school (Aug. 7) to provide the required up-to-date immunization record for your child. If proof
of vaccination is not provided by the end of the 30 calendar day period, your child will be suspended from school until you provide proof of immunization as required by law.
Student Council Campaigns
Our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders campaigned for Student Council officers this week. Each candidate wrote a speech stating what he/she would do for Voyager Middle School and why he/she should be the selected candidate. The candidates read their speeches during morning announcements. The speeches were outstanding! Voting took place today! Our Student Council officers are: President - Kate Flintom, Vice-President – Cara Freiburger, Secretary – Allison Miller, Treasurer – Karli McKenna, Press and Public Relations Officer – Jordan Rogers, Technology Officer – Lauren King, and Service Coordinator – Teagan Holleman. Congratulations to all of our candidates!!!!!
CURRICULUM NIGHTS COMING SOON
Mark your calendar and plan to attend our Curriculum Nights. Each grade level will share valuable information. Attending your child’s grade level session will give you an idea of what happens during the day and what will happen during the year. 4th, 6th, 7th , and 8th grade have already hosted their Curriculum Night.
5th Grade Curriculum Night - Tuesday, August 28, 6:00.
Fall Pictures
Several of you have asked about Picture Make-up Day. At this time, I do not have a date. I will share the make up date as soon as it is scheduled!
Voyager’s Silent Auction
If you could not attend the Silent Auction planning meeting and are willing to help with the Silent Auction, please email Mr. Eisenson at aeisenson@voyageracademy.net. We appreciate all help!
GO PLAY SAVE Books
Wow, we’ve had another successful year with Go Play Save. We do have some outstanding books so please return your book or pay for the book. The books are $25 each. Congratulations to Mrs. Lauren Allen’s class, Ms. Green’s homeroom, and Mrs. Graham’s homeroom. They have 100% participation. This means all students in their homeroom have either returned their book or paid for their book. Please make sure we have all books or money returned on Monday.
CAR LINE, CAR LINE, CAR LINE
THANKS to each of you for supporting our morning and afternoon car line procedures. There have been questions about tardies. Students leave the gym at 8:05. They go to their lockers and have a little time to socialize. At 8:15 they are in their homeroom and they begin working. Many are working on MyOn or iLearn. Mr. Mitchell and I put the cones out at 8:20 to stop traffic from going to the back of the building. At least 98% or more of our students have arrived and are in their homerooms. Students who enter after the 8:30 bell rings are marked tardy. I hope this answers questions.
