September is  "
Start With Hello"  Month

We are proud to present "Start With Hello" month here at VAHS because, in every school and in every community, there are young people who suffer silently because they feel left out, alone or invisible. We will also be having a culminating celebration to support Start With Hello Week, September 24-28 in conjunction with the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation. We want to help students start this back-to school season on a positive note and immediately feel seen, accepted and safe.

Social isolation is a growing epidemic in the United States and within our schools, and it can be associated with violent and suicidal behavior. One study found that chronic loneliness increases the risk of an early death by 14%. Young people who are isolated can become victims of bullying, violence and/or depression, and as a result, many pull further away from society, struggle with
learning and social development and/or choose to hurt themselves or others.

Start With Hello Month activities will raise awareness and educate students and the community through training, advertising, activities, public proclamations, media events, student contests and school awards. We'll be part of a nationwide movement to empower young people to create a culture of inclusion and connectedness!

Make sure you and your students are on the look out all month for exciting updates and activities around the school, such as our "Say Hello" wall to kick off the month!!

Vision Financial Credit Union is coming to Voyager on Thursday, Sept. 6th after school opening up Free Student Checking Accounts for Voyager Students! Students under 18 will need to have a parent or guardian on the account with them. Everyone will need to bring two forms of ID, and an initial deposit of at least $25. The Student Account comes with free checks, and a free debit card for anyone over 18. Having their own account is a great way for students to learn about managing their own money, and having a parent on the account with them helps them learn to do it right. Representatives from Vision Financial will be in the High School room A148 (Mr. Baker's room) from 4:00-4:45 on Thursday, Sept. 6. Contact Mr. Baker (dbaker@voyageracademy.net) with any questions.
